The Best Lens for M8 or M8.2

I try to find the best performance lens for digital sensor (m8) , well my favorite focal is the 35mm but there are many , summilux, summicrons, other no leica etc..
 
Hard to top the 35mm f1.2 Nokton if you dont mind the size and it gives around 47mm focal length with the crop factor ... I use little else on my M8!
 
In a perfect world the new 24mm f1.4 Summilux at $6000.00 would be nice!

A good lens at a sensible price is the 28mm f1.9 Ultron apparently ... I had one and sold it due to not getting on too well with the 28mm focal length. I hadn't planned on gettng an M8 at that stage ... it would have been usefull in hindsight!

Sean Reid has a pretty high regard for this lens from memory.
 
the best lens...presumably you mean leica?

35mm f/1.4 summilux asph (fle)
35mm f/2 summicron asph
35mm f/2.5 summarit-m
28mm f/2 summicron asph
28mm f/2.8 elmarit asph
24mm f/1.4 summilux asph
24mm f/3.4 elmar-m asph

pick whichever focal length you prefer, then whichever fits your budget.
 
I think the 28 summicron asph / 28 elmarit asph are considered standard lenses on the m8. They are solid performers image wise and the summicron is great in low light.
 
The Summicron 28mm was my most-used lens until I got the Elmar 24mm. Now I only use the Summicron if I need a faster lens.
 
If you like the 50's on FF then you can consider any of the following.

Another vote for the Nokton 35mm f/1.2, if you can live with the size. The last portion of that sentence is very important.

The Nokton 40mm f/1.4 is very easy to focus if you get a good copy, however the bokeh is sometimes a bit harsh.

I enjoy the Zeiss Biogon 35 as its easy to focus at any distance or f stop. My Lux is outstanding wide open, but it does some exhibit focus shift over the aperture range.

My opinion? The best lenses for the M8 are the ones I already own. Frankly I don't think there's a real dog among any lenses you can find to fit the M8. Even my old LTM lenses perform very nicely. In fact, better than they perform on film or would perform on an M9, thanks to the cropping-out of the nether regions where most of the aberrations live.
 
I'm rather enjoying my 50mm f/1.5 nokton. Wide open it's simply wonderful...
Before that it was the zeiss 35/f2...
Before that it was the zeiss 25/2.8...

Hold on, maybe any lens on an M8 is the best lens!
 
28mm F2.8 Hex works brilliantly on my M8 as a 35mm substitute, if you're not one of these guys that needs a crazily fast lens.

I'll give another (huge) thumbs up for the Nokton 35mm 1.2 as a 50mm substitute - although mine is now starting to look like a 50 year old example with all the brassing

If you are not a fast-lens obsessive [and I'm not], there is a very strong case to be made for the Zeiss 35mm C-Biogon f2.8 as being the best 35mm 'M' fit lens available. I recommend reading Sean Reid's recent [subscription] article '35mm lenses on M9'. It's a well kept secret, but the C-Biogon is a fantastic lens.

i like the biogon 35/2. also the c-sonnar. and the zm 25. i'm looking forward to trying the c-biogon 35 that chris mentions.

I shoot really nothing but 50's, so I think some of the nicest lenses I've tried on the M8 are:

"wartime" era Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar T f1.5/50

1950's era Nikkor HC f2/50

1950's era Canon f1.8/50

1960's era Canon f1.2/50

and also a very overlooked lens ~

Pre 1947 Elmar f3.5/50 (coated)

These lenses are alot of fun on the M8, I use them all with great results 😀

I do wish I had a Zeiss or a Nokton 35 to try out though.......
