I am pretty sure the new portra 400 can do that. I just shot a few frames at 12,800 and only pushed 2 stops in processing. I will post soon with a pics.

No, not at all. I just think its funny that digital shooters rave about how there sensor can go to unbelievable high iso, and how it leaves film in the dust.

Well that's certainly not my take on it ... I just really like what happens image wise when you push any medium to it's limit or just beyond!
Hurry up and post those Portra shots.

I think that Epson engineers know how to develop a sensor, software etc for digital imaging.
Too bad that he no longer develop their cameras, current technology would give them much more than a few years ago.
I know, my example is not usable for everyone or everything pictures, but old R-D1 has bigger potential than some current cameras. This is my opinion of course.

All but the bottom right are shot at 6400 and pushed 2 stops in developing. The bottom was shot at 12,800 and pushed 2 stops in developing. They were all sent to RPL and i did no post processing besides sizing.

I have a used D300 and every day instead of thanking the good lord for my beautiful D300 all I can do is plot how to get a D700 instead. This thread has not helped. Maybe if I sold everything else I own.... Nah.

I love my D700 for low light. I never think twice about shooting up to 3200. I've never pushed it quite as far you have here - definitely like the results processed as B&W better than color.
Personally, I'd say this shows the lack of limitations of this camera.
If my M8.2 could get even close to this performance, I probably wouldn't own a D700.

With BW film I never went beyond 3200 and 1600 for colour.
