the day i lost faith in leica

also by investment i mean a piece of equipment that helps me produce exhibition quality material or make me money. £5000 plus lenses makes this whole enterprise seem a but like a poor choice especially as the quality of the product is iffey and not supported when it comes to the crunch.

Weren't you just contemplating a switch to the M9P? And why is your camera at Solms? In the grand scheme of things having to pay approximately one tenth of the cost of the camera to replace the sensor is not a lot of money. Especially if you can't prove its not your fault.

if you need to solve something with Leica, go up the ladder. find out who it is, send them an email and be cool. problem will be solved very quickly.

can you post photos of the 'scratch/wiggly line' ? extremely curious and another reason why I'm hesitant to go digital M.

i know a few people that have been shooting the hell out of 240's with little complaint. well, one of them left it in a cab in Miami or something... but that's not something Leica can claim responsibility for. the cabbie gave it back 'cause it was shedding paint quickly and looked pretty ghetto.

Overall I've not heard much bad but I know a few who've had to send their cameras back several times. This camera is a great improvement over the M9 but its just that I'd like to see similar lifespans to the M6 and MP, which I don't think will happen. At some point, this camera won't be repairable unlike mechanical Ms.

I enjoyed using a loaner M-P from Leica but the cost was more than I could swallow, even with a price break.

fwiw, I don't think the OP was being unreasonable in his/her post. I agree with Stephen re:second opinion.

also still would like to see before and after scratch pictures

I disagree. I read blogs of a lot of content Fuji shooters out there who use to shoot Leica.

Well go get a fuji and report back after a year. 😉

What you read, and what you experience for yourself are two separate things.
But if you are happy with the Fuji, then more power to you.

The sensor didn´t scratch itself, right?

It is entirely possible the sensor cover glass was never scratched. Specifically it might have never abused during cleaning or usage.

The Leica customer service employee claims it was scratched.

There are anecdotal reports of M9 sensors delaminating that have never been cleaned.

I don't think Godfrey is saying suck it up as in take the cost. He is saying S happens, just take care of it, and spare us all the drama;"I've lost my faith etc"

The sensor was likely cracked by the tech cleaning it. They are not going to want to admit that. But there is the simple fact, the tech did not report a crack. The OP did not touch the sensor after cleaning. So how did the crack happen?

I would call Leica and go over this carefully.

The bottomline is when you let anyone inside your camera you are taking a risk they will cause a problem and later deny it. So I would trust very few inside mine. Especially for sensor cleaning.

Few will care as much as you in that dangerous operation.
This is my feeling. "I'm mightily pissed off" is not the same as "I've lost my faith in Leica." At least, not for me. And we're getting only part of the story (the OP's side); not an especially coherent part at that.

Cheers,

R.

So As advised by some of you I got Germany to check it one more time. Guess what? There are now magically delamination spots. The repair is being done now without charge but I just admit while relieved I suspect my Leica experience will only be film from here on in

Good to hear kehng. I've decided that Leica digital is too expensive and not the right tool for me. However, every manufacturer has issues and techs that aren't right at times.

now serving well done richly seasoned a la carte Leica crow at the RFF cafeteria

for all those who considered the OP a whiner who should suck it up as he was expecting too much from Leica.

I haven't been following the thread, but it should be noted that being right and being a whiner are not mutually exclusive.

Whoever did the initial evaluation was not in compliance with the Leica's current M9 sensor defect policy.

M9s with the new sensor assembly and Leica bodies with the CMOSIS, CMOS sensor assembly present no more risk than any other digital camera.

Regardless, I am pleased to hear your problem will be addressed fairly.
