Many of y'all are speaking from the elevated status of paid professionals. That's great. Some of you are using mindsets consistent with those who teach the rest of us what's "good". Both perspectives are valid, worthy of attention, and DO make us better.
For me, once I get past the technical parts, i.e., focus, grain, color or shades of gray, etc., I want to see if the photograph evokes any reaction. Most of my stuff goes in the circular file. However, the stuff I shoot to document important family/friends activities (blatant snap-shooting for sure...) is edited and culled a bit differently. For those, I intend to capture the event in a way to provide an over-all "history" of the event, while holding onto the various emotions and expressions that I capture.
Probably not any different than what most are doing. I'm still stuck trying to determine if PHOTOGRAPHY is ART or D0CUMENTATION, and if DOCUMENTATION can be fiddled with to produce ART......Sheesh....I don't want to think too much...
I just want to take pictures...

Never edited my photos just doesn't seem right to me if anything I just keep shooting until I get the best shot but I don't do any editing not even with digital shots

As far as manipulation/editing of my photos I only do what is easily available to do in the traditional dark room. That being contarst, sharpness, dodge/burn, and spot toning.
Only time I actually manipulate/clone out parts of an image is when i'm doing an illustraiton piece.
