Here we have a "regular member" (i.e. one who has not felt a "need" to contribute) who has used this site to discuss his angst over a desire to purchase a M7 in order to shoot pictures of his grandkids!

Meanwhile, the "free riders" get to prattle on an on about whether to purchase expensive gear w/o chipping in a dime!

Well, that didn't take long, did it. No surprise.

What caste? I must be in the same one so please fill me in?

There are benefits for those who can and choose to contribute to the site as Jorge has spelled them out. This contribution is not mandatory, and by no means does it diminish anyone person's "status" here at RFF. Everyone has to make a personal decision as to what is right and best for them and that is fine.

I was referring to a specific post - not the policy of RFF.

Edited to add :

I find it interesting that you feel no need to comment when someone talks of "freeloaders" using the the site, but take umbrage when i sarcastically reference his comments.

George didn't say "freeloaders" he said "free riders", Scott.

Absolutely correct RJ, thank you!

There is a very real difference b/w the "loaded" term of "free loader" and the term I deliberately used: "free rider"!

Let's be a little "Frank" here. 😉

This site has been at least two-tiered (and perhaps multi-tiered) since at least when (and more probably before) I registered as a user.

The "tiers" have been the "originals" as opposed to the "newcomers". Anyone who doesn't see that either has blinders on or is kidding his/her self.

Now the cozy world of the originals is upset. Some of use "newbies" are willing to pay the freight to keep the lights on. But we are still expected to "know our place" (which is as a lower tier than the originals) and keep our mouths shut!

Oh, and of course now I will be threatened with banishment for stating all of this!

George, you must be a lawyer right? Regardless your ability to "spin" is truly amazing. I mean that - If you are not getting paid to do it, you are missing the boat. OK, so now you put on the "who, innocent little 'ol me?" hat. Cool, whatever. Please, just for the sake of clarity reconcile these two postsof yours - made within 24 hours of each other.

What I do not understand is how many folks here do not seem to appreciate what they have and that Jorge is one of the good guys!

Consider this thread:

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/for...82&page=1&pp=20

Here we have a "regular member" (i.e. one who has not felt a "need" to contribute) who has used this site to discuss his angst over a desire to purchase a M7 in order to shoot pictures of his grandkids!

He has used this site to obtain advice and encouragement to purchase just about the most expensive RF there is!

Now I do not question anyone's personal net worth - but imagine that anyone who can afford such a piece of gear can afford to throw $25 into the collection plate!

How is Jorge supposed to feel about this kind of thing. Here he is, sponsoring a site which has no basic membership fee so he can get 'dissed if he sets up an incentive mechanism to "reward" those here who are willing to pay a few bucks into the kitty.

Meanwhile, the "free riders" get to prattle on an on about whether to purchase expensive gear w/o chipping in a dime!

Wow!

Yeah, I think you are missing something. Both posts use the term "free rider". So you point is?

As to disparaging me for being a lawyer - if you ever get arrested - call your doctor! 😛

George, I'm going to take a pass on the semantics of "free rider" vs "freeloader", sounds alot like "...it depends on what your definition of the word "the" is...", but -

Disparaging???

You seem more than willing, if not eager - to read meaning into others post's, while at the same time being very defensive of people doing the same with yours. I have no problem with lawyers. I like lawyers as a matter of fact - sliced real thin with onions and mayo on rye...mmm. Seriously, I did not even know you were a lawyer, I was simply complimenting your ability to "spin" - and it was sincere. As far as I'm concerned you can change your tack with every post, it's a free world and forum - have at it! Just don't come back sounding all misunderstood when called on it, or do - it's a free world after all 🙂

B.S. on your "pass".

Who is really being "slippery" here?

Google the "Theory of the Commons" (or, alternatively, "The Tragedy of the Commons") and you will learn that "free rider" has a very different meaning than "free loader".

So it is not just a "pass on semantics" you are seeking.

And, BTW, don't think I will somehow appreciate your "sincerity" when couched within a childish joke.

What you've yet to do is actually point out the supposed discrepancy b/w the two quotes you cited!

At the end of it all, I am tired of you (and this thread). I don't mind paying for the privilege of being here - why do you?

Again with the "I paid, and you didn't..."

Do you see yet what I was worried about? I've been called a whiner over speaking out about this issue, but I only bother to speak out because I care about RFF. With any foresight one could see where these changes could lead. Unfortunately Jorge has become entrenched in his position and re-considering the new changes is highly unlikely. Unfortunately. Anyone want to do a poll? Rich?

While all of this arguing was going on we had a new member with a crisis with his M6. A new convert from digital to film. Blasted film not going though the camera. I think the camera is fine, just crazy Leica Loading. I still can't get used to the "Rapid-Load" M3 that I got from JD. Anybody got any ideas on how to help him out?

Would both of you please take a cold shower and come back here in about 24 hours?

Now, I've had the pleasure of meeting one of you and I'd like to be able to say the same about the other. So no particular axen here, hey? When people get arguing the semantics of a given post at a place like this it is _not_ usually a pleasant thing. I'd prefer that the 2 of you do not play "Kansas" and get to the "Point of No Return"

(Yeah, that's a really hideous reference. With a bit of luck, thinking about where that silliness came from might just make either/both of you chill for a freaking moment)

So would you both go relax for a bit?

Thank you; I greatly appreciate it.

Jesus H.

just all of you STFU!!!!

GO SLEEP IT OFF!!! YOU ARE ALL ACTING STUPID, OK? STFU AND COME BACK TOMORROW!!!!

Why do I bother?

I never asked for this argument and I don't want it!

It's Jorge's site and he can run it as he wishes. I have no problems with his current set up, and in fact support it.

I am really tired of being "baited" by folks who just want things to be they "way the were".

They aren't and won't ever be again!

Get over it!

Jorge has listened to all of our feedback and produced what seems to me a reasonable scheme for supporting the site. I'm a little amazed the debate continues.

i'm going to start a new thread and make it a sticky.

it will be called...'george's last word'.

then we will all know where to go to see what george has to say and how he manages to have the last word...

george, if you don't want the bait, keep your mouth closed.
if you don't want an argument then just move on.
have you noticed how you seem to be in the middle of so many of these i paid and you didn't fights?

and just so you know, when you answer this post i won't be responding so for sure you will have the last word.

joe
