A little brick house on the east side of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Shot with the 28mm ZM Biogon on Tri-X in an M6.

Oh sorry, it seems the server trouble is on my side. After trying for your links, I found loads more that wouldn't resolve... I'll drop back in when that's solved...

I'll bite. It's not a bad image. Composition is fine, but I just think most of the other images you post are better (not as cliche). Any reason why you singled this one out for critique?

Just because its new. I have been so busy with school and other stuff that I hadn't added a new photo to my website in almost a month. Yesterday, I finally dropped everything and scanned a bunch of recent film and this was the first one I did.

I like this picture because of how the film handles both the shadows, highlights and everything in between. Pretty cool.

Chris, nice pic, it captures that feeling (always striking to me) of hopeful even aggressive faith, evinced by the flag, that one sees in homes and places in modest or even impoverished areas, often in the declining towns of the midwest and northeast.

Btw, I've always been a big fan of your handling of contrast. (Next spare cash I have for print buying will be one of yours, actually, probably one of your midwest field pieces or of the doll series.)

I recently acquired a ZM 28 - seeing how it combines with Trix makes me want to shoot some to see how it compares to the slower speed films I've been using. Thanks for posting.

Mike, you are right about the flag being more common in poorer or working class areas. This house is in one of Fort Wayne's poorest areas. I've seen and photographed the flag in other poor areas too much more than in middle class and rich areas. When I was a kid, it wasn't like that; the flag was flown by most of the middle class too. Wonder why they stopped? Of course, the middle class is nearly extinct in northeast Indiana.

You'll like the ZM 28, it renders beautifully. Here's another shot with it on Tri-X.

Chris,

you really have your craft down, congrats. At first I thought: ah, another example of that look Chris gets with Fuji Acros: deep blacks, luminous whites. Nice! Then I realized it was Tri-X. Goes to show what you can do with BW film if you know which look you want and how to get it.

Greetings, Ljós
