I still think that the M5 was based on the shape/form/template of the Leicaflex body. No proof though.

Your daughter has held a camera before. She shows the Leica way, just a new version of left eye clear to watch the action. I like the composition, and choice of aperture.


So many positive feminist overtones here with her command of the frame, no pretty M2 for the serious young woman, ignoring the rubbish about it’s all about the glass (Leica) and not the least intimidated by the M5. Maybe she complains it’s too small for her liking.

Three things more, quickly. (I know we are not all fans of this camera.)
1. The rewind is less dainty, much smoother, much easier, and much faster, if needed. The leader comes off the spool not so much with a tear but with just a feeling of being even freer.
2. The baseplate undoes with a quarter turn like the M9, not 180 degrees like M2/M6.
3. I was surprised and pleased I can fit the ZM C Biogon 35 and hood inside the ever ready case 14544. But I just discovered the ZM C Sonnar 50 1.5, and hood, will fit too.

I hope I have not put prices up….
