Sigma 50mm f1.4

Got to be the best value 50mm lens available today bar none! As someone said, it's the smoothest 50mm I've ever used.

I hope you are still tuned here to this thread. Curious about your sigma 1.4/50 for eos
I was thinking of adding one as I move to AF for My 5Dii kit rather than only adapted lenses.
Did you send your copy for AF calibration or was that an early sample issue?
There is far too much to read about online to draw a conclusion.

Seems prices for all lenses are on the rise. Even old Reflex lenses. Best to find your favorite and use it.
The old M42 Meyer Domiplan f2.8/50mm is one lens that comes to mind as far as a not so "good" 50mm. Although it's still useful for it's flaws🙂

The Rigid Summicron/Dual Range Summicron are remarkable lenses. The one I have now is quite tatty and has damaged coating on front and rear elements. No matter....

Also the Zeiss Opton Sonnar f1.5/50mm is a favorite. Lovely oof area and renders a 3d-ish look like no other.

For an M42 SLR, the Pentax 55mm 1.8 SMC is an overlooked jewel. Mine is sharper than my 50/1.4.

For LTM, my recently acquired Canon 50/1.4 was a good value. More modern than my Summitar and Elmar, and much better than the 50/1.5 Summarit that I once owned.

Most bang for the buck 50's? Two Pentax K mount lenses come to mind.

The SMC Pentax-M 50/2.0 lens often sells for $20-25.
The SMC Pentax-A 50/2.0 can be had for under $40.

"Dead" mounts such as Canon FD, Konica etc. may offer even better bargains.

Raid, i am partially color blind, but i see lots of difference in the nikon and leitz shots. the nikon is more pink, the leitz more peach on the wallpaper; the chair in the nikon shot is blue, and the chair in the leitz shot looks green.

IMHO, the russian Helios 44 is perhaps the best. No doubt there many other good lenses, but prices may vary very widely. It (i guess) depends on how lucky (or not) you are at the time of buying it. Anyway, a $ 300 lens badly focused may not show as a good one, conversely, a $15 lens would show better if everything is done the way it should be done.

1,4/50mm Yashinon in C/Y mount. It's basically a Planar with different coating and I got it for 16 $ - can't see any difference between the Planar/Yashinon shots in C/Y mount (the Yashinon has even better "bokeh", because it has more aperture blades).
