Hi everyone!
So, I was looking for some minimalistic camera "bag" that could protect just one camera while carrying it in a regular backpack. There's a lot to be found, but nothing just right in my case. Either too much, too big or not quite the right size. The usual, when it comes to camera bags I guess. So, I figured I could just make one myself. After giving it a lot of thought, a few trial and errors, redesigns and a few more failures, I think I have something that works. For me at least.
This qualifies as a simple, cheap and efficient camera cover. It may not be the nicest or toughest, but hey, you can make it yourself in less than an hour.
So, it's a single piece of 5mm EPDM (some kind of expanded rubber foam stuff) that folds around the camera. You would think that the corners of the camera are less protected and more "exposed" than the rest, but the flap that goes around is a little wider than the camera body, so there's a nice overlap still. I also cut out wedges on the front side for some tighter fit around the lens. The cuts were glued together and then I put a thread around the seam for added strength. Well, just wanted to share something you might like to try for yourself, rather than spending half a fortunes on products you're not satisfied with.
Oh, and if this proves to work well for a long time, I think I'll make one with a little more advanced fitting and have the padding sewn into a polyester fabric with velcro to lock it all together.
