The Leica Freedom Train

... they suffered severe and disproportionate punishment by the treaty of Versailles. They could've been allowed to recover and prosper, to be a peaceful country, but Hitler and his Nazis took that desire and with his hatred transformed it into the horror that followed. ...
I think that it is not correct that the Versailles punishment is the reason for the rise of the Nazis, this is a too simple excuse. Many German people like to work hard and to built things up, no matter how bad things are.

For ages, and in some cases still even today, the German character is a crude mix of arrogance, perfectionism, the idea of being above all nations and to teach others that Germany is right. Nowadays, the German defense minister says that Germany must become war-ready again, that Germany must be in a position to wage war within the next 5-8 years. This is so embarrassing and shameful.

In Germany it is not really allowed to speak out that not everybody was a Nazi at that time, because this is considered as a kind of relativization of the Nazis being "maybe not so bad at all". But there were many honorable people who risked everything.
