The M10 has arrived! Which half-case to get?

Thanks. At this cost, it was most likely with an exposed back.

The half case looks good here. If it is meant to cover the Leica and protect it from scratches, it does the job. Thanks James.

Hi Raid

I got this from my M10 from Etsy (half case and strap). I paid around $165 for it. I think it’s a good case and the leather is supple rather than the shiny kind. The strap is nice too.

The seller sells a lot of cases and they look oddly similar to cheaper stuff on eBay. I don’t know if they come from the same place or the other sellers use other sellers’ photos. But the objective quality is good. I think this is the kind will darken with use.

Hi Raid, congrats on your M10.

But I do not understand why you did not buy the SL which is much... ok, just kidding! The M10 is the perfect camera for your shooting stylke, I'm sure.

As for the half case I must say that I'm in the "naked camera" camp. I like the feel in the hands aof the nake body, incomparable. I add one more thought: think how much the enginners in Leica have been workin to make the M10 so slim as possible, to reduce the size fo a few mm. And now you want to increase that?

But of course it is "your" camera and you decide. I bought a Luigi case for Simo's D-109 and I have to say it is an excellent product really well made. So assume the case for the M10 should be excellent as well.

Now waiting for the pictures and your impressions of the excellent camera. Did you buy an additional battery? I suggest one, just in case. Usually I only need one for a shooting day but one more as safety is not a bad idea.

I have found out that Luigi sells some of his half cases for $190 via bee-bay, which includes a strap and shipping. Buying same set at leicatime from Italy will most likely cost Euro 180 for half case, plus Euro 60 for the strap and then Euro 30 for shipping. Add the Euro-US$ conversion, and we have a much larger total than $190.

Next is picking the color.

Hi Robert,

Rasha did not let me get an SL. :D
I fully understand what you mean by enjoying the beauty of a "naked" Leica. I marvel at my Leica beauties each time I remove a half case to remove the memory card or battery! I then return the half case to protect my beautiful Leica cameras!

I am at the start of the final exams week, so the M10 has to wait a week or so until the work will be over.

While not a fan of any sort of camera case to my eyes the Luigi Cognac looks like it would compliment your M10 the best.

Interested if there's any RFF Leica owning vegans here? If so, who/what do you use for your half cases?

That's the exact case I have! The green matches my body perfectly!

Leica Store in Miami sells Arte di Mano cases. Video.

looks like nice solution for battery & memory card door. yes prices for their new cases are high.

$560 plus shipping. It is very high for a camera half case, but people here say that it is "the best out there".

"The best out there" is based on the conveniences they provide (battery/memory card access and tri-pod screw) without removing the case from the camera. If these things are that important to you and you're willing to pay the price, then I suppose they may be "the best ..."

But I've been using Luigi cases for as long as I can remember - well, let's just leave it there.

Geez, these half cases are so expensive! I'm here trying to fabricate a half-case for my large Kiev 6C. It doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to make one, but I will see. Might be an interesting project to make my own cases instead of spending so much money on these!

The cases pictured are really nice and look well-made though.

I agree with Dave. The AdM half case is exquisite. I’ve had one on my m10 since I bought it. The access door for the battery and memory card is a must for me and the fact that you never have to remove the case is a plus. I prefer the open back and would rather replace the screen protectors so I don’t have the bulk of the flapping back door. I use a Luigi strap. All my film M’s have Luigi half cases and straps and they are great, but the M10 is enhanced with the AdM half case. I prefer the leather feel to a cold, naked Leica body. To each their own.
