The M8 is wonderful thread

Mine arrived this morning.

Good thing is that it allows me to use all those fine rangefinder lenses on a digital camera:

pre-war uncoated 9cm/4.0 Elmar wide open @ISO 640

Here's something from today - I tried using the M8 during a wedding that I was second shooting - 50 lux wide open, natural light, and placed him off centre - I think I could use it "regularly" (maybe not alone but I think, in the right wedding, I can work it into the routine). This was ISO640 and it was 1/90s.

Ya.. I think I like it - but I would like to try a longer lens (maybe a 90 Summarit) because that's the one thing I wished I had with me today.

I got accustomed to using the 50 Pre-ASPH lux wide open on the M8.
It was either that lens or the ZM 28mm f2.8 Biogon - and to be honest, I really like the biogon because you get that "35mm feel" due to the framelines (or "field of view" I guess..)

Converted from colour to b&w - this was with the biogon wide open:

And, just like I would use my 5D, I can use the M8 and accommodate for backlighting accordingly.

Delighted to see you are up and running at last.
I used to have a 90 2.8 but found the focusing area on an M8 very tiny. The 75 focal length works very nicely. At 1.4, focusing close, there is almost no depth of field. There has been a recent thread 75 lux with some nice pictures.

When I shoot with my Epson R-D1 i take the tape off. When they see the Epson tag, they think I'm a hobbyist. They are right!
 
Arne, your pictures are perfect !
I can't help but notice the tiny spots on your blue sky of the second picture. I had the same problem too. Is it really some oil from the aperture mechanism ? My M8 went back to Leica for sensor cleaning bc of this... I miss it !

I have a NIkon D2x with every lens you could wish for ...including the NOCT 1.2 which I might add is to die for. I BUT 1 year ago I bought an M8 and have not been able to leave home without it. Pretty much since then my D2x has been left languishing in the cupboard.

The M8 is just so easy to live with, produces fabulous results particularrly if matched with C1Pro.

Touch wood ...mine works fine, it has its weaknesses but these are are soooooooo offset by what it does well ...takes really good pictures.
 
Just got back from Cuba and my M8 is alive and well. I was delighted to have it with me, at all times, and will spend the next few weeks editing the hundreds of photos I took. Cuba must be one of the best places in the world to visit for photography, and apart from a couple of minor battery issues, and that thing that happens if you try and take too many photos with the M8 too fast, the M8 served me very well and I definitely think I preferred having it there than lugging around my Canon 5D and lenses.

Many photos of Cuba to come soon, but here are a couple taken on the first day there for now...
