The New Cruelty

BB King has an endorsement deal with Gibson.

Harpsichords, properly made to the specs of the ones that the music was written for and originally played on, currently can take decades to build, and are only affordable by the wealthiest folks or organizations.

Yeah, I know. My dad built one from scratch (not from a kit). It's currently owned by Stanford University, in large part because he couldn't afford to keep it (I'll try to post a photo of it, taken (on-topic) with an M3 and 50 DR, later tonight).

But the relative scarcity of harpsichords is not why Gould and Richter played Bach on pianos. And B.B. King chooses his endorsers -- not the other way 'round.

It's about clamping some parameters so that you can exert maximal control over the rest. This, by the way, is not an approach that is limited to art. It is also a key to doing good science.

who said 'from now on'?

it's an EXERCISE. it is not a rule. it is not forever. it may not even work for some... who knows. but some wish to give it a go.

is that OK? does it throw the universe out of balance? disrupt the gear force?

(extra emph. mine-mo)

EXACTLY!!!!

It's like not understanding why someone would jog the same route day after day, instead of always running a different route or why anyone would lift with the same set of weights and barbells...it's AN EXERCISE! :bang:

Just for the record, lots of guitarists use more than one guitar to obtain different sounds appropriate for the song being played. And drummers use more than one drum.

Sincerely: Good luck and best wishes to those attempting the limited gear exercise. Hope you find it worthwhile.

And some, like Roy Buchanan, got different sounds appropriate for the song being played from just one. In Roy's case, a Telecaster.

Horses for courses, I sez! And exercises can make you stronger when crunch time comes. etc...

The real question I'm facing is this: what if my "new" M6 TTL/LHSA is experiencing trouble with its shutter release? THEN WHAT!

I think it makes sense for a minimalist setup ...for all the reasons stated in the previous posts.

If I were to do this, I would go with my m3 with my 40mm cron, while having the flexibility of film choices. I wouldn't necessary go for a full year without variations, but instead try it out for a quarter or even restrict it for certain usage, eg. local shots vs. overseas shots, or everyday camera versus one-off shots.

I would embark on this mainly because I want to focus on composition and spend more time seeing rather than snapping away (even on a film).

does it have one good click left in it?

does it have one good click left in it?

If so, how about putting an ND filter on (if that's allowed ) and leaving it for the remainder of the year ??

Hi Maggie

Hi Maggie

It's like smoking a joint leads to coke, crack, heroine, speedballs, and what have you ... we're trying to do an early intervention to save our fellow RFF'ers

Which is why I choose to use both my 35 Summicron and Nokton 35/1.2, but only one at a time.

Lest anyone think this can't be done, see David Alan Harvey's book on Cuba and understand most of which was shot with a M6 and a 35/1.4 all on Velvia. He did use a single small Vivitar flash for supplementary light.

I thought DAH generally used a 28 on his M6?
