The New Hippocratic Oath of a Photographer

That was funny konicaman.

There is also the old chestnut of asking a female model if you can photograph her in the nude, and when she eventually says yes you proceed to take your own clothes off. So how about a clause to stop photographers behaving like Benny Hill, or would that decimate camera club membership and their 'nude' nights?

I don't see what the benefit of those restraints are. If someone like HDR, then let them play.

To be fair, the blog post only forbade nightmarish HDR. Regular HDR is okay.

1) I've broken half of those rules already this week.
2) You should add "I will not take pictures of young scantly clad drunk girls who are making duck faces". The key part to the statement isn't drunk, scantily clad etc, but the duck face part of it.

Amen. Though they mostly do that themselves. There needs to be a "Young Women's Self-Portraiture Hippocratic Oath" for that.

Glad you noticed :D
If someone didn't - please read the last 2 lines in the oath...

BTW: The original from the 30´ies can be found here:

Mischief Managed.

Rules, like technical standards, are fun because there are so many of them. Abiding by them can be challenging. So can ignoring them. Rules of ethics, of composition, of intent, of processing, whatever. Use them when useful, abuse them otherwise. Find a rule and fark it. My day isn't complete unless I've carved some wooden gods, broken some rules, and yelled at the wildlife.

Yes! The finger depressing one cheek just rubs in the salt.

...and no pictures that include bent over old people leaning on a cane or carrying heavy grocery bags just for the purpose of spicing up an otherwise bland image.

Oh dear, I have one of those. At the time I thought the cane represented the struggle against a mild incline in the snow. I'm running out of subjects. :)

Funny. Thanks for posting. I disagree with the first. Have no problem taking shots of people who don't know they're being photographed whatsoever. I also have - ready? No issue with a decent HDR shot. I also won't photograph the homeless - ever. While I agree with some of what you say, disagree with others... it was an amusing enough read.

Thanks. I was checking out the metering memory thing on an OM4 at the time. Quite an interesting feature as it averages across up to 8 individual spot meter points (of your choice) and it didn't do such a bad job in the snow.
