Cameras aren't computers or DVDs or CDs, but they do fall into a category best categorized as "different but same".

It's a slippery slope, and I think many of us, myself included, have grabbed onto that wispy sapling of sanity just in time to save ourselves! I once had seven 50mm lenses in M-mount. On RFF, that's small potatoes, but for me it felt like dangerously slippery territory.

Nah. It's a passion. We need those in life. I feel for those poor unimaginative types who don't feel strongly about anything. Too many of those in our crazy world and far too many in government bureaucratic posts. They know the rules and regulations by heart, but they lack the human empathy to apply them for the common good.

I have five digital Nikons, four film SLR Nikons, two Fujis, four Rolleis, and a myriad assortment of other odd-bod cameras, mostly old film folders and one or two antiquated P&Ss from those long ago days when one camera and one lens comprised most people's entire kit.

Do I need so many cameras? Is this sensible? No, but it keeps me content and involved. Especially when I try to live up to my long cherished notion of giving each camera at least one outing every year. So far - well.

Re my posting #20. An 'add' I intended to include but somehow left out. Old brain gets tired of late, it must be the heat - or here in Surabaya, the three tropical rain downpours we are getting every day during this 'wet' season...

The old gentleman up the street is the neighbor who some time ago dug out a collapsible 50/2.0 Summicron he had in a box in his garage, and gifted it to me with caps, a matched lens hood and a few B&W filters, when he saw my then newly acquired Leica LTM.

Inevitably after decades in a temperature uncontrolled garage in country Australia it had enough fungus and dry lubricant problems to offer a significant challenge to my local repair person, who did a magnificent job of giving it a new life.

So we owe this neighbor something. A little TLC and the quiet hope that his dear wife will return to him sooner rather than later (or too late).

Collectors are, well, collectors. And the fine line between collecting and hoarding is one all too easily crossed.

Forces are already at work on the phone and by email to lure her back to the fold, 'sweetened' by the clever suggestion that she can monitor the disposal of all the CDs and DVDs into an XXXL skip.

Let me also say I am fairly dying from curiosity to know what other treasures are in that garage. Maybe a first edition Rollei or a prewar Contax kit...

I have low expectations and have never been disappointed. Recently Facebook Marketplace seems to be the place to go.
