the obvious eludes...

i had a bunch there for awhile but i never sold my original as it was my first 'good' camera.

this recent one is the $10. (cdn) one that chris found but didn't need right now.

the top, shutter side, has been bent down a bit but it seems to work ok. have yet to check the meter.

OK, I have to admit to now owning three "Ps". One is unseen, still with Mark Hama.

And Brian, there are variations! Of the two that I have in my posession, one has a stop-pin in the top deck under the film-advance lever, and the other doesn't! Collect the whole set!

oh yeah, and some have a black & silver dial (film speed reminder) on the back, some have colour added, blue & orange.

chris, you have 3?

i need to move up my schedule and buy another p asap.
i feel threatened...😉

Hmm... now I'm not so worried. Thought my GAS was out of hand with two of (nearly) everything. Nearly as in two common camera mounts for different film. Well thats my excuse.

2 X Pentax K MX and an ME Super
2 X Canon FD FP and A-1
2 X Nikon AF F(N) 65 and F (N) 80 (does the D70 count?)
2 X M42 Praktica MTL3 and Fujica st605n
1 Bronica ETRS but with a bunch of backs spose that nearly counts 🙂

and...

err...

2 X M A pair of Leica M's, they get the most use of the lot of em.

I was fixing to say I have multiple copies of a few pocket cams, and began to explain my reasons, (mostly having to do with cameras dying) but then I realized I went and bought a dead RB67 body off KEH because it was only $10 and I figured maybe the interlocks work on it (they do, my good one doesn't. they still sit in their respective bodies, and no organ transplants have yet occured).

At that point I realized it was just rationalization anyway. Just got my second Stylus Epic - the first one died. I have two Olympus XA2's, my previous and still occasional fire cam. I think the reasoning was one to keep in my gear and one to shoot with, but that's all it really was - reasoning. It's a fine line between rational and rationalization.

I have two Ps...for two lenses or two film types or backup. I just parted with a fine L1 because I didn't need it. I have an excellent or near-mint IIIC with similarly beautiful 35mm summaron and finder that I keep because I've not gotten it together to sell it. I think somebody's about to buy the finest Century Graphic kit I've ever heard of...3 lenses, 4 backs etc...I'm simply not using it.

I just sold 2 uncoated elmars...somebody got a great deal.

There's a pair of F1s and a few lenses...should sell them but they were both just CLA'ed expensively...kicking myself in the pants for that. Anybody want a couple of mechanically sweet F1s with FD 24, 55 macro, 50 1.4, 100 2.8, 200 f4?

I'm not a collector and I don't like accidentally accumulating. I'd shoot a digital rangefinder if somebody made a good one with 8mp and a big chip. And of course, I'd want two.

Joe,

I picked your wavelenth the moment you bought BOTH my hand grips!

Fact is, your compulsion for two of everything is, IMHO, sensible. With reliability far from perfect in this world, and demands to perform whatever, I have always considered 'two' to be the only practical insurance for maintaining continuity or performance.

See, you are smarter than you realized.

well I don't have any doubles
let's see
1 rf, 1 slr, 1 tlr, 1 point and shoot, 1 polaroid, 1 mf folder, 1 disposable camera that i reload

am i the odd one here ? 😛

guess if i'm not a student i'd be like you guys

I'm with you foon. I don't seem to have developed the m-GAS (mulitple-gear AS). My preference is to get the alternatives and variants. So far 1 rf, 1 mf rf, 1 mf folder, 1 slr, 1 mf slr.

I gotta add that the student thing probably applies to me too.

I don't want doubles of the exact same camera, but multiples of similar cameras. My first Leica was and M2. When I dicided to buy another Leica, I purposefully chose an M3 which is similar but different. My next Leica was an M6, again similar but not the exact same model. I prefer the different flavours of my favourite camera type.

If we could use the analogy of girlfriends/wives: I would not choose an axact cloned copy of my girlfriend/wife, I would choose to have different versions. Again, variety IS the spice of lfe!

I have very few duplicates, Joe. I tend to accumulate whole outfits 🙂

- Leica M2, M3, IIIf, Leicaflex SL
- Konica Hexar RF, Hexar AF, Konica IIIM, Auto SII, C35 EF (leaving soon), FT-1 motor, FC-1, Autoreflex T2
- Oly XA, 35 sp (2), 35 RC, OM1, OM2, OM10
- Contax 137MA, Aria, Yashica FR-1, Yashica T5, Yashica 35 GT
- Pentax Spotmatic F, Chinon CE, Bessaflex
- Nikon F2S black, one in chrome with DE-1, FM2N, FG, N2000, N90s, 6006
- Canon FTBn (2), A-1, DRebel, Elan IIe, GIII QL17
- Minolta Maxxum 7, Hi-matic E, Autoccord
- Ricoh GR-1, ZI Contessa, Vivitar 35ES, Kiev 4a

Hmmm... doesn't look as bad as I had expected. Then of course there are the lenses...

And I'll scarf any more Stylus Epics (non zooms) I can get my grubby paws on for $30ish. They're not disposable, they're just replaceable. 🙂
