the obvious eludes...

Joe, like several others here, my cameras often come in pairs, though like Frank's they may not be identical twins.
2 Voigtlander Bessas, one an L and the other a T
2 Contax G2
Not a particularly close pairing of Minolta CLE and Leica M2
2 Kiev 4a, one faked up to appear a Contax
2 Fuji 645, one a GS645S and the other a GA645Wi
2 Bronica RF645
2 Olympus Pen FT plus the odd Pen FV
2 Pre-Spotmatic Pentaxes, one a K and the other an H3
Two Spotmatic variants, one a motor drive and the other an ES
Messed this up by getting an ESII recently. Got its cousin, though, a Pentax K2DMD
Messed up again with a single Pentax MX
2 Pentax ME Supers
2 Pentax LX
2 Pentax Auto 110
2 Pentax 6x7, though the first one is non-mirror lockup, the other newer

Not at all sure why they mostly go 2 by 2, and I seldom will have both of a pair loaded for active use.

I have had, untill recently, 2 Canon T-70's. I now have one (which a friend is borrowing indeffinitely) as I sold one of them.

I have 2 Box Brownies, that are similar, though not the same. One is a model C and the other is a D (with flash connection).

I do have a tendency to get similar models from the same manufacturer, such as my 2 Prakticas and 3 Zenits (plus I am watching another 2 Zenits that are being auctioned). I have 3 Canon EOS's, a 1000F, a 1000FN and a 300D (DRebel).

I have 2 Ensign Selfix folders, a 20 and a 420 plus 2 Ensign Ful-Vues, a regular one (second generation) and a Super.

So do you think I fit in too? Maybe we should start up a group therapy session.

> guess if i'm not a student i'd be like you guys

By the time I graduated college in 1980, I had 3 Nikon SLR's and 7 Nikon lenses. Nikon F2a, Nikon F Photomic, Nikkormat FT2. I also had a Minolta Hi-Matic 9, but I bought it in the 6th grade. I ate a lot of peanut butter.

> I have no brand loyalty.

I DO! I like CAMERA brands.

I'm pretty sure this is due to some childhood trauma. 😉

Like many here, I have _similar_ but not the same except for a few, and even then, it was not by design. My duplication is mostly by system.

3 Kievs.
2 Moskva's 2 & 5

SLR's

I think somebody's about to buy the finest Century Graphic kit I've ever heard of...3 lenses, 4 backs etc...I'm simply not using it.

Any idea on how much you will ask for the Century Graphic?

Whay backs and lenses are they?

I have a Century Graphic with on 6x9 rollfilm back and a 103mm Graftar lens.

how would i know?

welcome and i'm very glad you took up my invitation.

did that damn money order thing get resolved?

you might be interested in knowing that i sold one of the grips to frank s from here.
after i sold off the 2 bottom feeder canons i had one extra.
right now i have 4 grips and 3 cameras and therefore the 'need' for another body.
i also have a soft release in waiting.

very cool...

I'm a Gemini so I have an excuse , but the rest of the RFF membership... well I guess it is obsession.. right? and yes Joe, I think I have a problem, but at least I'm not trainspotting... yet. Most are used in tandem when I go out. One colour one BW. I have other stuff but I'm not talking.

2 Yashica GSN
2 Yashica Lynx
2 Olympus RC
2 Olympus XA
2 Voigtlander Perkeo's

Most photojournalists carry two bodies to avoid changing lenses and to avoid running out of film/card space. For example, I used to keep the 35mm or 28mm on one body and the 85mm or 135mm on the other body. Today, when I'm working with a staff photographer, they seem to follow the same practice, albeit with a wide zoon and a telephoto zoom. So owning two bodies makes sense from a user's point of view. Plus a backup, maybe. So three is perhaps logical.

Then again, aside from the rangefinders, I own two Nikon Fs, an F2, a Nikkormat FT, an FTn and an FT2. So sometime in my misspent youth, logic must have eluded me.

Hmmm... a reasonable explanation! I think this trauma came at age 21 for me, when my mother ordered me to go out and get a camera. She figured that since I was heading out to spend a couple years in the middle east, a camera was essential goods. As usual, she was right, and that Kodak Brownie Super 27 really started it all. 🙂

For the most part, I don't have many duplicates. I ended up with several Contax IIa's. The shutter in the first body is simply tired. It can't be overhauled anymore, and it has sentimental value. So I bought another to replace it, but then I sold it to a friend. Bought another and sold that to another friend. Bought another and sold that to yet another friend.

Bought another, and it turned out to be the anniversary model. My one Contax collectible.

Finally bought another, and even though this one has a low serial number, it's now my daily user. (Apparently, the three-digit numbered bodies are collectible, but I bought the camera to use, and that's what I do now).

Got a hankering for the folding Contina II, and ended up with about seven. Sold them all except one. Then at one time had about 10 of the folding Contessas -- sold all of them except two (Compur-Rapid and Synchro-Compur) -- gave away a couple, as well.

Had two Rolleiflex SL66's -- sold one. Just sold my other Super Ikonta B. Will probably sell my (one and only) Leica M6 later this year, as well as a Konica III and possibly another Super Ikonta B and two Super Ikonta C's and one Super Ikonta A.

Wavering a bit on the Olympus Pen F. Just gave away an Ikonta C. Don't worry -- I still have plenty of others for fun. I've used nearly all of these at one time or another. My current favorite is a very old Super Ikonta C.

owning more than one camera/lens of any type is clearly a sickness and after taking a few psych courses in university, i am convinced that in order for all of you to break with this psychosis, you must send your duplicate cameras/lenses to me. it is the only way. you may think you are happy with more than one camera, but you are not. you are very, very unhappy. pm me for my address and your eventual salvation... 🙂

Joe can have two sets, one for each of his split personality (see Print Swap II thread). 😉

Damn, Joe... I think we hit upon why you tend to own cameras in pairs!
