The OFFICIAL Plustek 120 post your scans

Many thanks for sharing your samples. Your results are impressive, I'd have to say better than my Coolscan IV, at least for web viewing. I don't care about 100% crops, but the overall "look". The way this scanner renders grain and the dynamic range look good overall. The scans have a nice "depth" to them.

Have you printed any of these files yet, and if so, how are the results? I've printed up to 20x30 from my Coolscan IV using a scanned Velvia slide, and the result was pretty good.

Thanks!

I do plan on getting some nice enlargements, I will have a whole huge wall at a local restaurant to do so.

I am very happy with the results so far, it just looks good.

While I do not have that many scans online yet, I have scanned quite a bit and share Fabios sentiments. The scanner is fast, the quality is superb, it looks nice on the desk, the holders are VERY usable and they do hold the film flat.

I am, too, very happy with my purchase. I finally got a decent medium format camera (Bronica SQ-Ai) and shot a test roll that I will scan in a few days :)

I do however have a bit of trouble aligning my 6x4.5 and 6x7 negatives, other than that I think it is hard to fault this scanner.

Mamiya 7II + 80mm + HP5 @1600 + Microphen (Must have been around F4 1/30 or 1/15sec)
Sharpened in LR, not sharpened for output or in the scanner

That's impressive! I'm definitely seeing the light at the end of the tunnel when I look at that. :)

Here's what I think, and it is just an opinion. And you know what about opinions.... They don't mean a thing.

I think, this scanner, software wise, wasn't ready yet. But it was taking too long and eventually someone at Plustek said:
"I don't care, get this damn thing out the door now or there will be ass kicking"

So, as the software gets better, it just improves on a really good package. For my needs this scanner is awesome.

Personally I always hated Silverfast, it's simply amazing that any software can be supplied today with such a ghastly interface. Vuescan is a bit better so I'm going to wait for it to be available before diving in. Having said that, the scans do look impressive and the comments on build quality are also encouraging. This thread has been very useful, many thanks to those who've posted their findings.

Fabio, and probably the same goes (hardware-wise) for the internal quality control. Probably not yet set up for 100% when the scanners were rushed out :)

Got news today from Plustek that they will send me a brand-new scanner from a new batch which just arrived in Germany.

Hope that soon i'll be as happy as you with the Opticfilm 120 !

Yeah, this is really encouraging to see a brand new dedicated 35mm/120 scanner on the market, and even more encouraging to see that it's actually a decent scanner. Chapeau, Plustek!

Well, the second scanner arrived just a few hours ago.

welcome to chicago there, second scanner!

let's see if you're better than the first one....

I am excited to share my awesome scans with you guys, after all this screwing around...

This is an image I took several years ago in Acadia Maine. It's Fuji Velvia 50.

This scan is so awesome you can almost smell the pine and ocean can't you?

That's just outstanding.
On the basis of this scan, I am going to pull the trigger immediately.
The way it renders the shadow detail from this negative with the lens cap on is simply breathtaking! :p

I have to say that I was surprised at the level of support I received from Plustek and Silverfast. They do indeed monitor forums and a Silverfast employee even took the time to research my email address and send me a personal mail to assist me. Also, Plustek Germany was super helpful.

totally encouraging.

I also have had good support here in the US. I've had good direct communication with people that know what they are talking about, and they were quick to answer my questions and concerns.

Kind of looks like just the IR channel.

interesting.

when i get back home, I'm going to remove silverfast entirely and re-install v22.

i did the update from the service window, but i'm just going to start over and see what happens.

something tells me this isn't a plustek problem this time.

I think it's software related.

Plustek says they tested my new unit before it went out ,and was confirmed to be good.

so if it's on my end, hopefully a simple uninstall-reinstall will get me going.

Oh....

For the record.

Plustek USA has been responsive to my problem and have answered every e-mail I've sent them.
