This is symbolic of my own spirituality. The ladder doesn't go all the way. Anyway, I want one. I know its on back-order but does anyone know how long it will take? I don't like to have a possible $2000 hit on my credit card waiting to happen.

I love this image - especially the ladder through the door. WOW!

To me these scans look very comparable to the Nikon 9000.

I agree - I have a 9000 and when the scans from the Plustek are good, they are easily a match for the 9000. The question is if Plustek can work on reliability and the focus issues. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Digital full frame body or Plustek and keep the HB kit? Hmmmm.

-Charlie

exactly.

All i know is, I'm going to continue shooting my Pentax67II for as long as they make slow film and Plustek continues to develop and support medium format film scanners.

For what it's worth, I also shoot a D70s and D800....

My intention to contiue shooting film when i have excellent digital equipment available to me shoud tell you something about my opinion of the scanner

Probably previously posted, but here is a review by ephotozine.com

OK review of feature, but not particularly exhaustive testing. They also push the software interpolated resolution numbers with little critical analysis. For example, they state that the Plustek 120 "offers resolutions of up to 10600dpi". Really?

Looking forward to some more film to come from the lab!

BWCOLOR,

thanks for the link for the 120 review. i am quite curious
about the comparison between the plustek 120 and the
8100. the 100% crop of the seagull showed a difference
in color but i felt that the resolution is the same.

What I'd really like to see is a scan from a dense (conventional) b&w 35mm film negative, particularly in comparison to a CoolScan 9000 and/or FlexTight. I've done comparison scans from such a neg on CoolScan IV, Epson V750 and FlexTight X1 and, needless to say, the X1 blows the other two away (the CoolScan IV couldn't handle it at all). It would be very interesting to see how the PlusTek compares so if anyone living in the London area has a PlusTek and would like to do this, please let me know.

With respect, it might be better to provide a link to this very large image rather than to post directly into the thread since it means that all the other posts now need to be scrolled (unless you're viewing on a very large monitor).

Sure, no problem. :D

OK, so what is the verdict now on this scanner? I only shoot 120 MF film and currently scan with a V700.

Some of the early problems seemed to be an issue. Has Plustek solved these?

Or would I be safer just to stick with my tried and trusted V700.

Hi,

This is my first post here but I looked around this thread for a while...
I have my Plustek Opticfilm 120 since 2-3 weeks now and I must say that I'm really impressed with the results of scanning medium-format film compared to my Epson V750.
I tried various options to improve image quality with my Epson V750 by buying height adjusters and tried even wet-mounting with Epson's Fluid Mount Accessory and also with shims....but neither gave me really big IQ improvements in terms of sharpness or dynamic range...Maybe other users have better experience with that ?

Before ordering, I was of course dubious about the focussing issue which some first owners had with their Opticfilm 120, but couldn't resist and ordered one Opticfilm in Germany....until now no focussing issue (well I think ;-)

The only issue so far is Silverfast 8 which has some issues:
it never saves the user's preferences resolution, or some GUI related issues, like sliders are not working after scanning a lot of films,
and other stability problems (like crashes):
Lasersoft should IMHO update their QT framework with more updated, stable releases both on Windows and Mac, my iMac27 runs on Mac OS X 10.8.3.
On the plus side is that Lasersoft is quite responsive when posting at their forums...updates are made every once a month...well I hope so...

Well here are some scans I made of medium-format 6x6 film
Both were scanned with Silverfast 8.0.1r22 on OS X 10.8.3 with no iSRD, no GANE, no Multi-Exposure etc. in TIFF

Removed the link to my dropbox PNG file since it doesn't work so please take a look here:

Opticfilm 120 @2650dpi and Epson V750@2400dpi:
Here a scan of a lunch bag: on the left the dryscan with the Epson V750 holder and on the right the Opticfilm 120:

For the cows here, on the left is the Opticfilm 120 and on the right the scan of the Epson

Yes for me the Opticfilm 120 is really sharper and has better dynamic range than the Epson V750...

Cheers,

Gilles
