I saw that the company ScanDig in Germany is selling loose holders for 49 Euro a piece. Maybe an option to get a base holder for modification ?

Shot 2 weeks ago during a short holiday. Rolleiflex 3,5A, Xenar lens, Fujifilm Reala 100.
This is a (approx.) 70% crop out of the 6x6 negative.

Dmax was better than the Epson but worse than my Howtek V750. It's pretty good for a CCD. Resolution is excellent if you can get the film in the focus plane.
I've just bought a screen cezanne and the results are only slightly better than the OpticFilm 120.
If I was dedicated to shooting 120 or 35mm I'd buy one and customise holder..

even tough i think it is a pity, that mark druziak gives no statements for a long time. i don`t think that he prefers recurring questions from each and everyone of us by email or phone. logically i (we) don`t want to purchase a scanner of the first (potentially out of focus) release, and have the trouble with sending it back to revision. additionally i don`t know when the improved scanner is available in europe and as mentioned above, what serials are relevant. anybody else with the same decision problems as me?

Well, i'm quite pleased with the Opticfilm 120. Bought it for scanning Medium Format in the first place and that was a huge improvement compared to my Canoscan 8800F.
Sure, there are better scanners out there like the Nikon 9000ED but problem with that one is that you have to pay dearly for an used example (in many cases even without warranty) and you must be quite sure that it works before you pay.
I bought a 8000ED last year in September and it turned out that it didn't work propperly. Luckily i could return it but things could have run quite different.
Also the first Opticfilm 120 that i got was out of focus by a major distance. In that case Plustek Germany did a good service job. Scanner was picked up at my doorstep and a month later a new one was returned at my doorstep.
Here a crop of a 6x6 image for a compare between the Canoscan 8800F and the Opticfilm 120 which i made a week ago. The scan by the 8800F made at 1600ppi which is about its max. optical resolution. The scan by the Opticfilm 120 made at 2650ppi and downsized in PSE to 1600ppi. 6x6 image made with a Rolleiflex GX on Fujifilm Reala 100.

We don't know if the problem that Plustek had detected and that led to the supply stop had anything to do with the focus. Maybe yes, but it could also have been something entirely different.
And while I think that nobody from Plustek would be allowed to release the precise information that you are requesting, it would still be nice if Plustek at least stated something to ease the minds of exiting users a little, something like "If your scanner has the problem (whatever it is), you will no doubt notice, you don't have to watch out for it".

it seems that everybody is discussing about the focus problems,
and still no straight statement from plustek...
after purchasing, till now nobody knows about having a good one or one with the out-of-focus problem.
and still no answer from mark after contacting via mail.
after periodically postings here in the beginning, now it seems he is not interested anymore to maintain contact with buyers of the scanner.

problems with focus happend rarely, when the scanner was dropped down maybe during transport.

So still no proper samples taken with Mamiya 7 to Fuji Velvia 50 :L
Hopefully some day Plustek will release a model with adjustable focus, autofocus or with adjustable holders.

Not sure what a "proper sample" of a Mamiya 7/Velvia 50 means, but I have examples on my Flickr pages of Mamiya 7 & Velvia 50. Scans quite well.

Just catching up - a slight diversion: the Canon flatbeds can do better than you think with medium format film, with careful sharpening... (Hope you don't maind, Hans)

No, i don't mind Rich 🙂.
Sure i know that sharpening can improve a scanners output. Do that almost with all my scans except for the ones that i really use for comparisson reasons.
Same goes for most images i take with digital cameras and publish. Normally i have the sharpening turned off in the camera and do add that in Photoshop so i have full control over it.
There is however no substitute for real optical sharpness. What is not in the scan will also not be in the print and the oversharpening to camouflage lack of that very often looks ugly on bigger sized prints (or screens).

Maybe something to do with the Power Supply. It's 60Hz in the US isn't it ?
With regard to what they told about the focus-issues i think that's their standard story. The unit i had the problems with came in an undamaged box and nothing inside or outside indicated a rough transport. When Plustek is concerned about that they should tape so-called "G-Stickers" on the boxes.
Guess in my case it was more likely a lack of quality control.
