I think to some degree all optics in the scanners will have this chromatic aberrations. But in the three Opticfilm 120 Units I had, this is way to much. Looks like the lens that is build into the scanner is very weak or has heavy quality tolerances. An Achromatic lens would help to minimize this issue (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achromat).
Even downscaling the scan until the red channel blur is not noticeable will result in a very low DPI resolution, that my Epson 4990 flatbed can easily match. Very Sad.
But Luuca scanns look very nice and does not show this effect. I only had German Plustek 120 units and the US units might be different?

different color channels will always show different levels of sharpness on all scanners, thats quite normal.

hey folks,
has anybody the same experience that some scans show some vertical lines with a very slight yellowish color cast in the middle of the frame (topdown) ?
more or less visible most on neutral background like sky etc…
sorry, at the moment i don`t know how to attach bigger images.

thank you pete b,
my first one has been replaced for that reason.
the color cast and stripes are less visible at my second unit, it is better, it is not immediately visible, but it is still there if you have a closer look.
is yours completely stripe and color cast free especially in the middle of the frame (topdown)?

Have had good success with my scanner which I picked up from Adorama in November of last year. Had some issues with vertical striping, but above all I was having issues with loading the film tray on first try. I would always have to pull the power on the device to eventually get it working. Sent it into plustek, which just so happen to be a just a bit north of myself, and looking forward to getting it back. Had a bit of a back and forth with them and it took about a week for them to acknowledge I needed to send it in.
Anywho... some recent scans:

Hi guys,
I bought this scanner a week ago. So far I am very happy with the results. The only problem is the frame alignment for 6x7 (shot with Mamiya 7). The first frame is more or less ok, but the 2nd and 3rd are way off. Using the holder for 6x8 I am able to get ok framing. I am using a new macbook pro with the latest Silverfast software (the one you get to download when you don't have a dvd-drive). I am bit surprised about this problem since I read about it over a year ago and thought I would have been fixed by know
35mm scans are spot on though.
Will post a few later tonight.

That a silver fast problem. When silverfast starts you can reset it in the startup dialog. That worked for me.

After installing Silverfast on your PC you then have the option to install and use Vuescan, and then uninstall Silverfast. Silverfast is an insidious piece of software where you can only install the drivers to YOUR scanner by installing Silverfast first. Plustek are great scanners, especially with Vuescan, but it's about time people were allowed the option to openly choose the software they want to use with their property.

Just purchased a Plustek 120 and having vertical banding issues when scanning 120 negative film. The problem occurs in Vuescan, SilverFast and even when I output in RAW and convert using the ColorPerfect plugin. I wish I had discovered this thread before purchasing the scanner. From people on here that experienced similar problems did a replacement unit fix the problem or shall I ask for a refund and not waste my time?
Thanks!

Had to cancel the order with Calumet unfortunately as they were out of stock and could not get me a replacement within reasonable time - service from them was A+ otherwise.
Placed a new order with Amazon this time as they had it in stock and guess what? The banding is even worse and it also seems to be defocused compared to the first scanner. There is also very bad banding in the blue channel which explains the colour shift.

I have created a returns label and the scanner is going back on Monday. VERY disappointed that Plustek seem to think that they can get away with manufacturing a product that appears to have serious quality control issues.
I was prepared to give Plustek the benefit of the doubt but quality control seems to be seriously lacking and I am reluctant to try a third scanner just in case that I get lucky and it works.
