When I lived in Santa Fe, the Ortiz Mountains were one of my favorite subjects. This small mountain range in the southern part of Santa Fe County lies just northeast of the Sandia Mountains in neighboring Bernalillo County, outside Albuquerque. I made this photograph of the Ortiz from the top of the Sandias after my son and I rode to the top of the mountains on the Sandia Peak Tramway. The place where I made this photograph is nearly a mile above the ground below, and more than 10,000 feet above sea level!

Did you feel the air was thin at that altitude chris? The photograph makes me want to go road tripping in a black 67 impala...

Nice shot. The Southwest USA has some amazing scenery. I spent a year in El Paso, TX, and even the deseart can grow on you.

No, the air didn't seem thin but the temperature drops fast as you ascend the mountain. At the bottom, it was 95 degrees and at the top it was 65. We went hiking in the forest on top of the Sandias and the cool temps made it NICE.
