Frank, enjoy your rejuvenated cameras! I really enjoyed mine when they came back, amazed at how smoothly they worked. I hope that you feel that the wait was worth it after shooting a few rolls.

It was about a year's wait - I really don't remember clearly. In round numbers, it was $300 per camera with lens to purchase (not through HS), and an average of $300 per camera for the refurbishing.

Anyway, I feel honoured to own these 2 beauties! Hopefully they inspire me to take some good photos!

Oh my, I need more info.

I have been watching that ready to ship statement on the list and I knew you would get them this week.

Hey that's cool Frank!!! Thanks for sharing the photo's... it's like christmas I bet!!! Hopefully within the month I'll be the proud owner of a Contax II & I can't wait... Playing with my Kievs again just pushed me over the edge.

Enjoy those babies!

Peter

Definitely awesome. I love that he goes above and beyond, even with the packaging. Once I can afford to send the Leica to CRR Luton, I'll be saving to send my Contax II to HS

Congratulations Frank, you must be really excited. 🙂 It reminds me of a big(gish) box that arrived from Don Goldberg a couple of weeks ago with three lenses and a body in it. I was waiting nowhere near as long as you (maybe 10 weeks?) but boy was it great to have my stuff back... 😀 And Don did just a beautiful job on my gear.

I'm looking forward to reading about your shooting experience with these cameras! 🙂

Wow, is that all?!?!?! I had figured that getting a single Scherer-rehabbed IIa with lens would wind up well into four figures, and concluded that I'd never be able to afford it. I may have to start rethinking my future gear-acquisition plans...

[Who still has pleasant memories, and a few good pictures, from my college days shooting with a color-dial IIa and 50/1.5 Sonnar... wish I'd had the sense to just put it in a drawer and keep it after it stopped working and a local repairman told me 'these things are impossible to fix'...]

Wow Frank, those are real treasures. Any how nice they arrive at the same time as the weekend....lol

Yes, the repair costs are not astronomical. Not the cheapest, but not nuts. The wait is a test of dedication, a year or so into my wait and hopefully to be in the single digits in line.

Frank, congratulations! I'm envious, happy, and, as raid put it, inspired 🙂

I pulled out months ago, the cost of everything for him to get me one camera with lens was well over $1,000. He wouldn't provide me with a receipt for purchasing cameras (although his website indicates he charges at cost + small % commission, I forget which). This perturbed me a bit, I sort of started to feel as if he were taking advantage of me with the insanely high price, so I pulled out, but he kept my deposit, even though his website doesn't indicate he gets to keep it. The guy is a pompous, arrogant ass, but I'm sure he does good work, and I probably would've been happier had I kept discussion with him minimal. And probably could've saved some money if I weren't lazy and spent time trying to find a camera myself 😛
