Akiva, if I understand correctly, you are only using focus confirmation to focus, correct? Can you install a split prism yourself on the P1?
I have a Canon 10D-Leica 28mm R lens setup with a split prism and a Hong Kong adapter. Its a fun set-up to play with, however I seem to be hit-or-miss on focus.
I've been thinking of a P1 4/3rds option...but only if I could improve my focusing abilty.

Would you mind expounding on this a bit. I have that lens, and it is indeed fantastic on film. My best photo are made with this lens and infrared film!

As I have contemplated dumping my Nikon digital gear in favor of a 4:3 camera from time to time, I have considered this lens my ace in the hole for that format. But if there are real issues, I should probably know about them! Can you point me to a relevant article or discussion? Thanks!

I certainly will not expound on this since expounding would imply that I know what I'm talking about, which I decidedly do not in this case and in all other non-photographic cases, just ask my wife. 😱

But to answer your question ... wide angles for film SLRs, in general, perform less well on DSLRs due to their not being as "telecentric" as lenses of longer focal length. The 21 is really an "ultra" WA at least by some definitions. Without doing some Googling and citing what I have read before, I think the apertures at which both good opitcal and good metering results are obtained with the 21/2 on a 4/3s sensor are much more restricted than other OM/film lenses. For example, I think shooting the 21 wide open would not give acceptable results except maybe in an emergency, very low key tonality, etc. Plus you may have to learn how to compensate at wider apertures.

That said, I would not be deterred from trying this lens on a 4/3s body and learning its characteristics. If it didn't work acceptably and I was doing far more digital than film, I could sell it for quite a nice chunk of change.

Edit: And FWIW, I would buy the expensive Olympus-badged adapter were I to go this way. I don't care how much cheaper the others are, the thought of mounting an expensive lens on a relatively expensive DSLR via a cheap-a$$ adapter doesn't excite me.
