The 2.8 is smaller. Which is weird cuz normally faster lenses are bigger. Apparently the 3.5 is better, but I have been very happy with my $20 like new 2.8!
I believe it’s the same in the OM system (28/f2.8 smaller than the 28/f3.5).
For Pentax the real gem for slower wides is the SMC-K 28/f3.5, with its fancy pants 8/7 design.

Yes, that's the one everyone is after, so prices remain pretty high.
The M28/3.5 is nearly as good, far smaller and usually much cheaper.

I have an MX with 30/2.8 and 85/1.8 that I should pick up and shoot again. Does anyone know if those aluminium grips are still for sale somewhere? I have one on my Nikon F2 and I love it, the MX could really use one for the 85.
Nice shots there Nick. I really need to do a shootout between my 85/1.8 non AI-K and Pentax K series.

If I knew 30 years ago what I know now, I'd have shot my girlfriend with my Dad's Pentax ME and SMC 50mm f1.4. I'm just imagining the beautiful black and white or colour images I could have taken back then. Mind you, being an image conscious and insecure girl, she probably wouldn't have let me take her portrait. Oh well, can always look back in retrospective imagination.

As I said in another thread, the black MX was a thrift shop find, alerted by an observant co-worker who thought I might be interested.
The chrome EE is the one I seem to be using more, however, with its funky auto-exposure. It's the same size as the MX but with a totally different shutter.
Both are lightweight and fun to shoot!

Great find!
I wonder when it picked up the chrome rewind crank?

Not sure why people post photos taken with an MX..? What could possibly be illustrated about the camera body by that.
The lens, or the film type, maybe...but the body? Nope.

I agree with your basic point i.e. about the camera body playing no particularly influential part in the images. However, I guess the reason for people posting photos taken with an MX is that........ this thread is about the MX.

Why do people post photos taken with a Leica M whatever? Same here.

Cameras. I has it.
Posting a photo made by a camera proves it can make a photo.
If we didn't post photos made by our cameras, all we'd have is photos of the cameras. Not that I'd complain...
Besides, I believe each camera, even those of the same model, imparts its own unique characteristics onto the image which only our soul can see or know about.
No, I'm not referring to Holga light leaks!

Oh my gosh, you're right. You best go tell the M3 users, and the Nikkormat users, and the SRT users, and the F6 users, and the M2 users, and the Bessa users.
In the meantime, here's a photo I took with my MX.
