Cameras. I has it.
The meter on my F2AS had to be repaired, as well as on my F2Photomic.
I've seen more bad meters in F2 cameras than in MX.
Finding a functional meter head on an F or F2 is something of a rarity in my experience. The ring resistor (effectively a potentiometer) wears out on these. This tends to happen also on early (pre-FT3) Nikkormats - the ring resistor is behind the mount.
Metering in newer cameras also uses (very small) potentiometers, but they don't seem to incur the wear that the ring resistors do.

True, but I have two good DP-1 meters. I think a lot of them have seen extensive use in the hands of professionals. Find a nice one that has no dents or wear and usually it will be good for a lifetime today. My 2 cents. Sover gives a serial number in which most above that number are good and he does repair them with a new ring resistor. The beauty of mechanical cameras with extremely simply electrics. Always repairable though the price might be over the top.

Very nice, @Huss. Kodak ProImage looks good, and I'm very envious of your Pentax 40mm pancake. I've never even seen that lens for sale, in the UK.

Probably because I haven't put mine up for sale yet! They come up every now and again.

Your pictures from the 40f2.8 look very nice Huss. I had mixed feelings about mine. Never impressed by the contrast, especially wide open i was almost unusable (I will scan a pic later).

The ring resistors (particularly DP-1, DP-2, DP-3 and early DP-11) can wear out under heavy use. But if you buy a head in excellent cosmetic condition, it is likely not to have been used too much and therefore will work fine. In the past year, I got two black Nikon F2AS bodies in excellent cosmetic condition and the metering heads worked fine. My understanding from Sover Wong's website (and from speaking to him) is that the DP-12 resistor wears out after about 250,000 rotations, with the metering becoming erratic thereafter. That is pretty heavy use, which I am unlikely too reach given that I only use the F2AS occasionally. However, I did purchase two custom replacement ceramic resistors from Sover (about $50 each) which are supposed to last for 1 million rotations -- effectively forever as a practical matter unless I end up muttering to myself somewhere and obsessively rotating the aperture ring all day long, every day for a couple of years!!!

Thanks Pan. There must be sample variation because I heard this lens was not very good, but mine has been a corker.
Same get up as above:

"Nickthetasmanic" How did you get to the location you took that picture in Vietnam from? I'm envious as hell. Peter

Please don't tell me that your Pentax 40mm is going to be up for sale. I'm a recovering 'lens-aholic', and I'm trying to avoid any such temptations!

You needn't worry. It's currently off at the repairers acting as a body cap for my LX. On he evidence of past experience of Russell's repairer, it may be some time...

Hi Peter, the photo was taken from a place called Hang Mua ('Mua Cave') near Ninh Binh. There's a lookout up above the caves that looks over the karst landscape of Tam Coc.
This is a shot of the lookout itself, my photo above is looking down the other side.

Whatever you do, don't look on eBay. I search it now and then for things like 40mm lens hoods by Pentax and the last time I looked there were 40mm lenses for sale at all sorts of prices.
Alas, I have yet to find a single Pentax lens hood of the right vintage for any of the lenses I have and usually end up taking them from the OM which is also mainly 49mm screw in.

Sound advice, David. I'll try to avoid it.
However, you know how it is when someone says "Don't think about........"? It's virtually impossible to avoid thinking about it, when trying NOT to think about it........!!

Great colors, Huss.
The one's I saw just north of Union Square were freshly replaced after the Mob tore them down to get at the juicy items inside. Anarchist logos, and threats against cops, society scrawled on the walls. I passed by Paragon Sporting Goods. a landmark at the NW corner of the Square. Seems that $400 Nikes are all the rage amongst the politically outraged.
Always important to look good no matter what.
I'm heading my business (what remains of it) in SoHo and will try and document some
