The Perfect Camera Bag

i have no idea what that means brian...honestly.
It was a tease based on your saying that "as of today" you are happy. "Today" = 24 hours. The contrast was with an impression that some people flit from idea to idea in periods of time shorter than that. Sorry for being obtuse.

Heh. Everyone seems to be missing the point. I didn't ask what you carried...I asked what your ideal kit was. I was trying to get everyone thinking about what they think their ideal kit could be.
well mine is close now, Bessa R2 and CV lenses 21, 28/1.9, 35/2.5, 50/1.5 75 & 90
back up body either a R or T

Gassing over the new R4 or the R2M and the 35/1.2 and maybe a COUPLED 25

Daily in the car camera is the Bessa R with the 35/2.5 or my non-coupled 25

Stephanie,

For me it is not a question of having 'a' camera and a bag with me. Say, if we are going to our summer house in Sweden I carry with me several camera bags with several sets of cameras. The volume of this far exeeds what I need of room for clean socks and underwear, to say the least:

I have two Löwepro rycksacks for my 1Ds II equipment, including three flashes, some 6 - 7 lenes, excluding the 300 mm 2,8L - ah - that comes in a dedicated leather box. These bags do not store the extra battery and charger. That is in my ordinary suitcase together with the above mentioned underwear etc - and the Epson P2000, charger and cords etc.

I have one of these large Löwepro sacks for my, most of it at least, Hasselblad gear, - the parts of it that I still use, like the 203FE with three lenses, the 905SWC that comes in it's own case, flashes, tripods, hat-sized sun shades etc. etc. Then I have just bought a small Löwepro shoulder bag for my new ZI with three lenses and two flashes - which I can also use with the Hasselblad gear. Sometimes I carry with me my old Hasselblad gear: The 501C/M with three lenses in an old original Hasselblad shoulder bag. I have a Edixa that needs exersise too. It comes in a plastic shopping bag. Puh!

Top this up with a bag for my Toshiba 17" Satellite lap top with additional HD and a arsenal of blank CD's.

You know, if I were to go with Marco Polo on his trip to China I would need three camels. Just for me and my stuff. So, I am not a popular travelling companion. Ask my wife.

So. When going to Sweden in early May, when the frost has just loosened it's grip on humidity in the ground, even 4 wheel drive won't help you. As you can see of the pictures bellow.

Simplify!

Whatever fits into my Domke F5-XB
or any similar size (small) bag.

Anything more is too much!

So, to the question: what's in your ideal camera bag? What's your ideal kit? Whether it's what you have or it isn't, put it out there. Even if you aren't sure (as I'll never be 100% sure), tell us what it is NOW.

2) Kiev 4am's - J-12 35mm f/2.8 - Helios 53mm f/1.8 - J-9 85mm f/2.0 - J-11 135mm f/4 - 28-135 Turret Viewfinder - small cheap Japanese meter w/ incident and reflective - small notebook - pen - film - gallon size zip locks - Cleaning cloth - Sharpie to mark film canisters - Little Fuji F30 (nice cheap low light digi cam) stuffed in one of the pockets -

I am currently using a Domke F2 Sand - plenty of room left for personal items - It is quite heavy for all day carrying so I am looking at this thread and trying to decide what I can leave out when I travel to Europe. I may bring it all and then place a few items in a smaller bag based on the itinerary for each day.

I am attracted to Rangefinders because they feel much easier to focus under low light conditions. The focusing distance is somewhat inhibiting for me - but I feel I can adjust to this limitation. - The Kievs are new to me.

I also have a little Nikon FM2n kit. I don't think it focuses as easily or as quickly in dim light as the Kievs for me. I don't have a special screen either - just the basic one with the split circle in the middle.

Being new, I think I will learn a lot from this thread. I see a lot of people carry much less than I plan to. I guess I'll carry it all around locally and see what parts I use most and take those to Europe. I have a couple of months to decide.

How do you like your F30? As you have, I've been thinking of getting one to accompany my old RFs that I don't use a flash with.

Hi Bill,

I like my little F30. It was weird at first because it didn't seem to want it to let me take control. However, after some digging and online research; I've learned the nuances and find that it's a handy dandy little camera to throw in the bag with little cost in weight. It's quirky but you can get to know it and learn to control it. The iFlash system is pretty cool too.

It's not perfect as the f/2.8 is not a constant aperture. It goes smaller and smaller as you zoom. There is no manual focus or viewfinder. But; the price point and low light capabilities make it good enough for me.

Ideal for me means it works and I can afford it.

Thanks very much!!! Low/ no light is what I need it for. Sounds like it works for you.

OUTSTANDING! You definitely have figured out this quirky little tool! Thanks for sharing these! On a flickr site can I view exif data? Can't seem to find it.

I'm getting off topic now. Thank You for sharing these!
