The price of accessories

I have quite a collection of M42 lenses and a Mamiya/Sekkor body for them. I also have a Konica TC that I only have a 24mm lens for. I decided to look into an M42-Konica adapter so I could use the main lens collection on both bodies.

So, after trolling ebay I instead picked up a Mamiya/Sekkor DSX 1000 in excellent condition for less than the price of an adapter. It's sad when something as reliable as a Mamiya/Sekkor is pretty much worthless.

Not that I'm complaining, I feel I got a deal! Plus now I have a second screw-mount body the TC and 24mm can find a new home, I didn't use it much anyway.

You want to take pictures. Good. But the Hipster Cred of a non-"classic" film camera is close to zero, and the price ain't much higher.

It's funny, I just was meditating whether I should buy a M42-body, planning to exchange the mount, since I had to find out recently that I have more Rollei SL35 glass, than I have flawlessly working SL35 bodies 😉

You want to take pictures. Good. But the Hipster Cred of a non-"classic" film camera is close to zero, and the price ain't much higher.

If I want to be hipster I take one of the Leicas, but there's a lot of fun to be had when I start mounting the Takumar 300mm f4 on a tripod and a crowd gathers to see what the hell I am doing with that bazooka. 🙂

I don't think Leica is hipster at all. Too sophisticated and high end. You need something far more proleteriat komrad, as you sip your $10 pints of beer.
Like a Zenit. Or Kiev. Or, shudder, a K1000..

Even that doesn't always work these days, It wasn't long ago I pulled out my Barnack only to be immediately greeted by a guy with a Zorki and another with a Mamiya 645!

Fair dinkum. But why not buy an 8x10 and do it properly...?

In many countries, too, ANY tripod attracts a crowd. Ever been to India?

A Polaroid. One of the old ones, with the bellows. The kind where you have to let the finished prints sit for a couple minutes before you peel the paper off the front.

I actually have three of those, I have often wondered about putting a sheet film back on one of them. 🙂

I also just sold my SX-70 collection on eBay, hipsters really like them these days!
