I want something halfway decent. I like my crappy camera, but I'd like to find something that's not quite expensive as an L-CA that would work for me. Fixed lens, auto or fixed focus, 35mm or wider, f/3.5 or faster. Can I get something like this for under $100? Used or new doesn't matter. And yeah, just so that I don't get any, I don't want digital. 35mm film is a must. 🙂

The XA doesn't qualify as auto/fixed focus. 😉

How about a Pentax PC35AF. 35mm lens, F2.8, two AAA batteries so cheap to run. Manual wind but built in flash. It is auto only though. $30 shipped.

The XA2 is a point and shoot, or at least zone focus, and last time I checked was going for about $20 on ebay. Very nice optics.

And its decendant Olymps Stylus Epic, a.k.a. the pros' P&S, I think can be had for less than $100 brand new. Auto everything.

EDIT: Both are pocket friendly, w/ sliding covers. The Epic is water resistant as well. Both 35mm fixed (f3.5 for the XA2, f2.8 for Epic). Both come in black. Epic has auto flash (with an off switch).

If I wanted to go downscale, I'd try to find one of those Big View things, but that's for my myopic glasses-wearing self.

Olympus Mju II /Stylus Epic in USA is autofocus, 2.8, spot metering mode etc. and the probably the smallest 35mm camera and very chep, check it on adorama.

Stephanie, how about a Leica? I have a Leica Z2X that I carry around in my camera bag along with my rangefinder cameras. I got if off ebay used for about 70.00 However, it has a zoom instead of a fixed focal length lens. It is a 35-70mm. And the lens is excellent. It is an outstanding little camera, very easy to use, very well layed out, and it looks cool too. It even has the little red Leica logo on the front of it.

I want something with a fixed lens. If I could get a Leica with a fixed lens for that I would...but I don't see that happening. 😛

You are a hard woman to please! :bang: Alright, how about this. How about a Yashica T2. There are several versions I believe, but the one I am thinking about has a Zeiss 35mm 2.8 lens and it is autofocus. You can get a mint one on ebay for around 75.00 to 100.00. There is also a version that has the Zeiss 35mm 3.5 lens that may be a little less in cost.

I just want tons of opinions before I buy. The T2 was actually what I was looking at originally. And yes, I'm a hard woman to please. I want good optics on a camera...even if it is just a point and shoot. I'll also take suggestions for new crappy point and shoot cameras, though, with fixed focus lenses. I kind of like the toy camera thing. Not enough to stop using rangefinders, but enough to perhaps start using them with some kind of frequency.

Hi Stephanie - I have a Yashica T4 Super weatherproof gathering dust. It has a Zeiss T* Tessar 35/3.5 lens which is very good indeed. PM me if you are interested, after you have heard the variety of opinions from other RFFers.

Okie dokie Stephanie, how about this. I owned one of these in the mid 1980's and it is a super camera and they can be had for about 30.00 to 50.00 in mint condition on ebay. How about a Nikon L35AF. I believe it was Nikon's first AF P&S camera and it comes with an outstanding 35mm 2.8 lens. Now, it is a little larger than todays modern P&S cameras. In fact it resembles a rangefinder camera in size and styling. It too is a nice looking camera. And the lens is really a superb Nikkor optic- nice and sharp and contrasty. How about that? 😛

Since someone mentioned nikon, how about a canon sureshot A-1? It's made underwater but you can use anywhere. With a 32mm 3.5 lens. Flash control and micro.
