a horrible thought just crossed my mind, what if... yes what if one day I wake up on the wrong side of the bed, and through a Manchurian Candidate sort of mind control...
decide to get rid of my 35mm rf cameras, lenses, and assorted finders..
and just buy a couple of Minolta SRTs and a few Rokkor lenses..
Just think of all the money I would have left over for film and even travel expenses.
would my photos look all that different, probably not by much.
Has anyone on this forum ever entertained such an idea?

No I have never entertained the idea as I have SLRs and lenses. IMHO the photos I take with my SLRs and lenses don't look all that different from my RF photos. YMMV.

Sometimes I do. Years ago, people may have been justified in paying the price for more expensive glass, due to minute differences in sharpness, "microcontrast," and the like. But nowadays, with photoshop, I don't know. Unless of course, you were still doing wet prints.

Oddly enough, I've just bought a couple of SRTs and some Rokkor lenses. They don't cost much, so do what I did - go without food and have both!

I'd always wanted the Rokkor 58mm f1.2. Alas, the one I got has problems, so is now heading back to be mended at the shop. Just like buying Jupiter 3s........

And as for the fetish factor - have you seen Ruben's Kiev? Tactile is the word :) !

My SLR fetish is OM. The bodies and Zuiko glass are not the cheapest, as GeneW will confirm. So if I were going to make a move, it would be in the opposite direction ... sell off the OM gear and invest in RF glass. But I can't bring myself to do it. First, I've had OM gear since around 1974, so I don't want to break "the spell". And I have the 21/f2 which I adore. Replicating that on an M would be very expensive. I had a 21/3.4 Super Angulon on an M, and although I liked it a lot, the Zuiko 21/2 is equally nice, although in different ways.

Maybe this is what happened to Joe, selling his Canon P and using a Leica for his Avatar.

Invasion of the Camera Body Snatchers...

Hey, I've done the same with cars. I drove relatively flashy expensive cars then thought "b****r this", and started driving "s**t heaps" instead. The main reason for this was financial as I'm pretty heavy on cars and abuse them in all sorts of ways.

Yeah, fast and expensive, slow and cheap, they all get me to work on time but the expensive ones are more pleasurable to drive, smoother, dont crick my back or make me feel like I've been 10 rounds with Tyson when I get out after a long journey.

Conclusion ! Sometimes getting there matters as much as the destination itself.

Sell everything here to members and when you want to buy again, buy everything here, whether used from members or new from RFF sponsors. :D

yes, that is what I will do Frank.. if ever I go the SLR route, but I am getting a lot of joy out of using assorted 35mm rangefinder cameras and their lenses.. it is good clean fun.

Hello,

The temptation for me is to sell all my M42 SLR equipment and cross over to Rangefinders completely. But they both have their own special place in my work, really.
