When I met Matt yesterday afternoon the air was heavy.
The moistness could be felt as I walked towards him with an urgency I had never known before.
"Dave?" he asked; "Matt?" I questioned in my reply. He nodded and smiled and extended his hand to me. He had a firm grip; something I believe is a sign of someone not afraid to be who they are. Someone who knows what they're doing in their lives.

He reached in his pocket and pulled out the lens.
It was what I had come to this quiet downtown street for.
The item was black and small and it would, by the looks of things, do the job I needed it to do.
It seemed to be in good shape and I was pleased to take posession of it.
It would, I thought, eventually become the weapon I knew I could wield without trepidation. It would be my sword; my Excalibur!

That's when he said "The other one is inside for safe keeping; let me go and get it. I'll be right back" and I wondered what the other one would be like. So, I waited for what seemed like mere moments, and maybe it was; I was too caught up in the acquisition of my weapon. I scrutinized the item I had come to purchase. All functions seemed to work just fine. This was, in my opinion, a good deal for such quality workmanship. I was about to start counting off money to pay Matt when he reappeared. How long had it been since he entered the house? It could have been only 10 minutes or it could have been hours - I was embroiled in equipment; it did not matter.

He walked slowly but steadily towards me; this time carrying, on his shoulder, his shooter. He held it out and showed it to me; "Here it is." He removed it from its body and it felt as though he had handed me a bar of gold. It was heavy and dense; small yet solid. If my weapon was a sword; this, certainly, was a battle axe inlaid with diamonds. It was a jewel in my hand, yet at the same time, it would have the ability to be a killing machine if it was in the "right hands".

I can't deny that I didn't lust for it.
It had charisma; oh yes, and it called to me.
I smiled at Matt and told him "This thing is a nice piece of equipment"
I inspected it and then tried it on for size. "It's got an infinity lock on it and the throw is really smooth!"
He was right; this puppy was smooth.
I looked at the blades; clean as a whistle.
The glass was clear and sweet.
Clicks were, as I expected, sharp and correct.

I removed it and handed it back to Matt.
"It's really really really nice; but I'm really going to have to think about it" I said.
He smiled and told me "It's ok, I've only had a couple inquiries about it and I really would prefer to deal local so if you make up your mind in the next week, it's yours"

I handed Matt his money and we shook hands; and like a married man tempted by the scent of sweet perfume on a woman's lithe frame in the heat of a summer evening, I left before I would give in to the seduction that was presented before me.

My 40mm Nokton is a great lens, and the Voigtlander 15mm that I attained is more than ample to satisfy my wide angle cravings yet I still am longing to possess the 50mm collapsible summicron that Matt displayed to me.

Such is my lust.
Such is my temptation and the cross that I have to bear 😉

Cheers
Dave

That is on the high side, the collapsible in M-Mount usually goes for well under $300. I have seen them for much less, especially if they need a CLA.

That's what I figured as well so I decided to pass on it - no CLA needed on this sweet piece of glass though - I didn't even see any of the standard "minute cleaning marks" that I often see in so many ads 😀

Very entertaining, thank you for that, Dave!

But how come you didn't write such a piece after you bouhgt my C/V 35? You know, about how our eyes met for the first time across O'Conner Ave? 🙂

Bahahahah 😀

I guess I could have written something similar for that meeting; I guess with this meeting it was more "thrilling" because it was something "new" and, well, dangerous !! 😉

Cheers
