Very nice work, Margus. Are the portraits handheld or did you use a tripod? Stunning detail without seeming clinical.
Cheers! All handheld shots. That's the beauty of Foveon, it's non-interpolating sensor, you get the full info on all pixels so there's not so much "bad chemistry" between interpolated pixels like on Bayer-sensors. Foveon files mostly need little if no sharpening at all to look tack-sharp (it took me some time getting used to this 1:1 pixel perfection coming from Bayer-sensor camera) and it looks "clean and natural" even on the fuzziest details that normally look crap on the common Bayer-sensors IMHO.

The shots in this thread really are beautiful and make me want one of these cameras! I started looking at them to price them just for kicks. I already have a camera that is similar in function (LX7) so there's no way I could justify the cost or need but man those shots sure make me want it!

Yep.. Could not agree w/ u more. The look from the foveon sensor looks so much better than a normal sensor that needs a Bayer or xtran filter.
Your 5mp (15 foveon speak) sensor to me feels like it has a better balance between a nice crisp image and that dreamy smooth look then the current dp Merrill we are using. If I come across a used sd15 at right price, I may give it a go as well....
Thanks for the posts.

I think Margus could have used almost any camera to good effect with an eye and subjects like that. Awesome documentary work, Margus!

Hanging on to past generation digital cameras may be acquiring a new allure!

Is it just me or is flickr oversharpening images? In my last pic above I linked it to flickr at first and thought it looked a bit 'blahh' then edited and linked it to our gallery and it's much better.
... why do they have to do that?

The first pic is actually DP3M ... I think this thread should probably be re-titled to include images from the other two Merrils and the SD1M if that's ok with the OP?
