There's a few threads about dust around here but I think most are in the development parts of the forum, as that's when the negs are most susceptible. However, I just got a roll back from the lab and I'm seeing similar "crap" on my scans, which leads me to believe it's the scanner.
I'm using an Epson V600 over an OpticFilm 8200 (specifically for the convenience of batch scanning). What's the general consensus on keeping the scanner bed clean? Before each roll (or two) I wipe it down w/ a cloth for cleaning a lens, which I assume should be fine and dandy. Results are still... variable at best. Should I be using glass cleaner with a paper towel first, then wiping down lint free? Something else? I was going to sell the OpticFilm for the lack of medium format, but looks like using both pieces of hardware will save me some headaches.

... static is the biggest problem I get ... rub anything smooth with a dry cloth and it gets charged, once charged it just sucks the dust up ... damp cloths and high humidity works for me, admittedly not with a flatbed though

If this persists I'd suggest a gentle rub with an anti-static cloth. Peter

I have V500 and our house is very dusty for unknown reason.
My solution to scan it without big dust related problems is Ilford AS AS cloth.

Really, makes difference.
I turned off useless dust removal option at Epson scan software and after scan I'll have just a couple of dust specs to clone out in LR.

I have that cloth. Am I totally missing the point by wiping down the film with it? I'll try the flat bed next time. I just did 4 rolls... late here though!

I do wipe glass mostly, but did it with negatives as well. If rocket blower doesn't help.

Cats aren't the spawn of Satan - however their farts are definitely evil !
Antistatic foam cleaner does a good job of getting fingerprints etc off the flatbed glass, and seems to help a bit with the dust.

Luckily my cat does not suffer from flatulence. She's a prim and proper girl.

I've been wiping the bed w/ the anti static cloth and while not perfect, the difference is huge... enough that I don't punch myself after each scan. Now onto other problems.
