1964 -- the year the Beatles came to America - was a sad year for me. I was up at 5 AM everyday to distribute newspapers, made all of $14 a month if I got paid by the greedy subscribers. I turned 12 that year.

My avatar is a photo taken in 2007 of a man in my neighborhood who actually thinks he is still in the early 60's. I look a tad different.
We kinda look a lot alike. LOL!!

I could have sworn the lens on the S2 was a final version 35/2.5 (same barrel as the 35/1.8 and the front element looks a little too small for the 35/1.8), but of course the guy who's actually holding the camera in the photo is the guy who knows for sure. Thanks again for posting!

I met Kerwin a few times. I left UPI Newspictures in 1976 but I did some free-lance shooting for them after that. I shot for UPI at the 1985 Worlds Series in Kansas City. KC played St. Louis winning the series four games to three. I am sure Kerwin shot for the series as I have seen a photo recently of him at one of the St. Louis games during the series. He may have been at the KC games, but we had about 15 shooters at each game and it was pretty hectic.
I remember him as a friendly guy and a excellent shooter.
He was a student at Kansas State University. When I worked for UPI out of KC, I had a telephoto transmitter set up permanently in the darkroom at K.State, Univ. of Kansas and Univ. of Mo. for students to send us photos of breaking news and some sports, although I covered most of the football games at the schools, unless home games were at more than one school on a Saturday. I don't recall that he was at K.State when I worked for UPI.

OK you caught me, maybe I am getting old. naw no way.
I have one shot of the front of the camera fairly close and I looked with a magnifying glass and yes it is the 35/2.5.
I have been looking for some record of the serial# of the body but have not found it yet. I have printed sheets of my early Nikon RF collection items all duly listed with numbers, but not that camera and lens. I guess I must have not thought of it as collectible when I was collecting :~)

Cool story. Very cool camera. I was a kid in 1964. The look of the photo really takes me back, with memories of the JFK assassination, closely followed by Beatlemania.
