The Takumar Lenses

'I'm not much of a "bokeh" bro, except with my old 55'. Here are a few taken at wide apertures with an early Super-Takumar 55 1.8 on Ilford fp4 with a troublesome (sticky shutter) Pentax SV.

I have been experimenting with some shots from my earlier M42 Takumar lenses -ones which I have not used for some time (surfeit of choice). I find I like the low saturated, low contrast well rounded almost 3D look they give to images (which suits my preferred style).

I have been using two lenses predominantly - a 55mm auto Takumar f2.2 while the longer lens is the preset 105mm f2.8. I would not say either lens is super sharp even if only compared to later Takumar lenses in these specs )and leaving aside other marques) but they have pleasant rendering and are sharp enough to do the job. Both lenses are substantially smaller than the later corresponding Takumars and fit nicely on an M43 or NEX camera with adapter because of their diminutive size. Both lenses were designed for use with the "pre Spotmatic" cameras - s1, s1a, s2 etc)

The shots below have been played with in Lightroom and Nik but my intention was never to produce shots just to see how the lenses performed alone. I wanted to see if they supported my preferred style of image..................and as I say, they do.

Unfortunately I have not posted any 50mm shots yet so all these are with the early preset 105mm f2.8

Just for fun, here's one with the Auto-Takumar 35mm f/2.3 on a Pentax SV

I think I see what you mean. Nicely done, I like them.

Except, the fifth made we want some pho myself. Not available here, however. ;)

Lovely shot. I visited the same spot last winter; stayed at a B&B across the water. Beautiful part of the world, but the opportunities for dining out are very limited in the middle of winter.

Lol yes, I wouldn't expect many dining options in small town Tas during winter :D Although the Huon Midwinter Festival (which is just up the road) is great ;)
