What will be worse - the angst of the wait or the agonay of the separation after 2 short weeks?:bang:

The letter coming will explain some options possibly, or we may just be slotted in. Either way it's good.

I suggested to scott at mainline that it would be good if, at the end of the travels of the camera, there was a limited production of a book. At least for the participants.

No response regarding this, as yet.
 
Sorry to distract y'all from the new Nokton but I have just had some great news from Mainline Photo. At the end of the camera's travels all the participants go into a draw and the winner gets the option to buy the camera for $1295.00 AUD ... if he/she doesn't want it the offer moves down the line to the next draw name!

Be still my beating heart ... a chance to own the folder for this price has my blood racing! 😛

At that price, nobody who's been interested enough to get on the "list" would pass it up, given the chance. Case of first in, best dressed when it comes to the draw I guess.
 
By the way, before anybody gets excited that this is some semi-official second hand price, the basis of Scott's calculation is that he totals the $95 contributions everyone on the list is making to trial the camera and deducts that from the retail list price. He still gets full freight for it but in the meantime exposes a lot of people to "hands-on" experience with the camera.

I am glad it ended up being the option (B) to buy at a reasonable price calculated by Scott and then placed in a draw, rather than the other option (A) we could vote for, making a bid..i didnt really like the idea of bidding against others we 'sorta' know and i am positive i would of bid more than this, just to get it(try), but this way is a much fairer and a reasonable price considering everyone involved has helped pay for it in a sence..whom ever does end up with it will no doubt be happy with the price and somewhat grateful to Scott and everyone else who contributed over the year
 
I guess most of have now received our paperwork and signup sheets from Scott. Mine is on the way back to him right now. All we have to do is wait for the camera to arrive and then every two weeks someone new gets to use it. The offer also includes two rolls of Foma B+W and now there are two rolls of Kodak Portra NC or VC with free processing included.
There's going to be a book available at the end of the project with selected images from the participants too. That should be good! A very imaginative promotion!
I think we'll have to start a new thread once the first RFF user has had it. Anyone got a catchy name for it?
 
Actually Leigh i only just got mine now, but i am bit further away than you.

it seems straight forward, although i feel a little weird signing a form saying i acknowledge taking a receipt of a camera today that i haven't actually taken responsibility for yet or is not really in my possession...a matter of logistics, simplicity and trust i suppose in Scott so i am sure its ok, not really bothered just feels weird is all

just glancing at the other form (from Horsham colour lab), i am wondering if you/others can elaborate/clear it up for me..so its an offer and combined 'competition' by the looks..2 free rolls of Portra NC or VC/ free processing and scans to CD..$7 covers postage return of the negs (?), CD and prints (proofs?), in exchange for use for promotional purposes without consultation, credit or royalty--

the next highlighted section is about the book and then the next section ,The Competition says something about winning (the prize) the leather bound book of images. the photog with the most outstanding 'image or series' gets the book

so am correct in assuming that this is limited to using the 2 rolls of Portra supplied and returned to Horsham Victoria undeveloped, or can it be any two rolls of film or is there any limit on films submitted (although if that was the case what would be the cost of processing the others or just sending the negs for scanning--so i assume its just 'the' 2 rolls of film?)...just wondering because i remember hearing at one point that Scott or someone was considering something about free or cheaper processing, or scans i think it was, from film shot with the bessa III...this is a different thing, yes?

so i guess i wont be wasting those 2 rolls on test comparisons LOLOL, well maybe, just nicer subjects perhaps hehe

I guess you'd have to talk to Scott to be 100% sure but as I read it the Horsham offer, book editing and competition relates only to the two rolls of (OOD) colour that Horsham are providing. I'm not sure myself if the two rolls of Fomapan that Scott promised are also going to be included in the competition/book, but I think not. I don't see reference to it anywhere in the Horsham document and they'd have no reason to as a colour lab.

Personally, I'm not overly concerned about the rights aspect. You're not being asked to assign copyright to anyone - just the right for Horsham Colour to use any image for promotional purposes. I might have been 'nicer' if they hadn't included the words "without consultation, credit or royalty" and also if they'd put a time limit on it. As it is it's open-ended, but if that bothers anyone they needn't sign up for the Horsham deal. Just go and buy a couple of rolls of colour film yourself and have them processed yourself - Horsham need never see them!

I've set up a FlickR group if anyone wants to post results to date from the Horsham scans or other rolls they might have run through in the feverish 2 weeks.

FlickR Travelling Bessa III (RFF/Mainline)

This seems like the easiest way to post & find images without hitting RFF bandwidth to hard.
However - Scott /Stephen let me know if you would. rather everything about the project stay in house on RFF.
 
Cant wait to see some stuff from Oz with the Bessa III. I have had mine for several weeks now - and the more I use it, the more I like it!
A friend got his the day after i got mine and stated "This is the best single lens, 120 camera he has ever used". The optics are very good, the finder briliant and the AE system works very well. Only time it acts up is when I try to outsmart it!
Alright - so you cant close it with the hood on the lens - but the hood is small enough to tuck into a pocket anyway - so no big deal.
 
Funny you should say that Tom - I'm traveling in Japan and today was going all zone system using my pentax spot meter.

Here is the thing - there was only 1 occasion out of sixty odd frames where the meter in camera differed from what I was working out from the spot meter. (and even then it was a 1/2 a stop off)

Well, it can't be too far away from me now.
Something I intend to do is run a direct side-by-side comparison with my Rolleiflex E2. I'm going to put both on tripods and take duplicate images. I've got extra film from Horsham and will have all four rolls processed by them. I'll also get prints done so I can eliminate any viewing effect the computer screen might have. The pictures might not turn out to be highly creative but it will be interesting to see if there's a discernable difference between this modern evolution and a recently refurbished 50 year old classic of 120 photography. If there is it might well justify the price!

I join Roland in suggesting that not just the US West Coast be also covered but also Florida which produces oranges as sweet as California oranges!
