The ultimate Leica one lens kit

Ultimate outfit. This implies an ultimate photographer, beyond GAS and whimsy, who understands that magic bullets are a myth and wants a capable camera that delivers, but is easy to live with.

M4 and 35 Summicron ASPH.

I would have to go with OP on this one. Lux 35 and M7 (or M9). Right now I wouldn't add a lux to my set up because of the size, but if it was my only lens who cares if it's bigger than the cron.

if i were to look at this question with the idea of being as 'realistic' as i could muster...as in what could i afford and get my hands on...
and m2 with 40 summicron.

fantasy?
m9 with 40 summicron.

I actually can live with an M4-2 and the 40mm Summicron-C. Why? Because I did for over a year; my first body and lens. Of course, if I had to do it all over again, it would be with the M2 and the 40mm Summicron-C ;)

I am very impressed with my M4 + old summilux 35. Of course, my M3 + any good 50 (I have a Zeiss Opton Sonnar + adapter) is also a classic. Hard to choose between the two.

Both kits are bare essentials only while they are quite costly, but they are a pleasure to use ... In particular, the finders are very very nice, even with glasses. They deliver top results in lots of situations. A VC meter transform them into electronic metering modern cameras :p

No magic bullet here, but lots of pleasure.

for me my M7 0.58x + 35mm f1.2 nokton have been inseparable for years, it's incredibly versatile in terms of giving me the compositions I want in the natural light conditions I encounter. I've bought a number of other lenses (leica 35 summicron asph, zeiss 35mm biogon, etc) but always came back to the fast nokton within a couple of days, it's good at everything.

Fantasy: MP (new) 0.85 with either a Noctilux 0.95 (like I said, fantasy :)) or a 35 'lux FLE - I think I could happily live with either one :D

Pseudo-reality: M6 TTL with 35/2 ASPH. Still won't happen though - my budget would be maxed-out more along the lines of the 50/2.5 or 35/2.5 Summarit if I had to buy the lens new and it had to have a red dot :(

Actuality: M6 TTL with a "2000" Nikkor 50/1.4 on an Amadeo adapter - only because I already have this lens and adapter, so all I'd have to buy would be the body, having stupidly sold my 0.85 M6 TTL...:bang:

35/1.4 Summilux-pre with M4. (My sample is as sharp as the 35/2 Summicron Asph. at all apertures including f2.)

50/1.5 C-Sonnar with M3SS. (Character is better than all my Summicrons.)

35mm Summilux-M pre-ASPH with the Leica M4-P. :)

Close, I'd have the same lens on my M2.

In fact, that's what I have as it is, but currently I'm also using a Super-Angulon 21/3.4 and a Jupiter-9 85/2.0 with Zeiss optics on it.

Pretty perfect when it comes to size, speed and ease of use.
