The unusual story of how I wound up getting my book published

Yes, he told me about your book and praised it highly. Great stuff! How does Ink Photobooks work? Do they contact you or is it another self publishing platform? I can't find anything about it.

Thanks everyone.

Robbie, InkBooks is a new imprint/publisher. Philippe and a friend of his formed a publishing company. Their goal is to publish high quality photo books. Their website is inkphotobooks.com. My book is their first book. I'd met Philippe at some RFF meetings in NYC. I didn't know until 3/25/2015 that he was planning on publishing books -- that's when he sent me a PM or RFF. InkBooks had the book printed in Europe, on high quality paper, duotone printing, linen cover, and foil stamping. They also did the design and editing. I supplied about 650 photos for them to chose from. I also provided the scans. They then adjusted the scans to the printer's specs, and ordered proofs. There were only 500 copies made. My goal is to share the work. But much more important is for the copies to get into your hands so InkBooks can publish books with other photographers.

I received my copy of Dan's book and it is really well done. Some great photos in this book if you like street photography of people and there are also some great non-people photos as well (an unexpected surprise to see these in the book Dan). The book feels and looks like any other high quality photo book made today. Great job Dan and Philippe.

If you can afford to do so, you should most definitely support these two guys so they can continue to keep both of their endeavours alive.

Thanks John and Robbie. Glad you like the book. It never could have happened without Philippe and inkBooks.

Thanks again for the orders everyone. Another batch was just deposited at the post office . Here is a full press sheet from Dan's book, before folding and collating. Actual size approx. 30" x 22".

I anxiously went to the Post Office today as I knew my copy had arrived. Great shipping and fast service!

All I can say is WOW!

This goes way beyond any of the Blurb books or any of the other short runs. It's really very well printed, the contrast and tones are perfect, paper is perfect, binding is perfect!

I am really glad I got a copy of this. Thanks for all your efforts to produce this. It's easily worth twice the price. Can't wait for Volume II.

Your work is a mix of the style of WeeGee, Freidlander and a bit of Bernice Abbott, but truly has a style its own. There isn't a bad or "doesn't fit" image in the whole book.

I really encourage any other RFF'rs who have a large body of work like this to make a book.

I only wish I had such a body of work, but it is very inspirational.

Thanks!

Just ordered a copy of your book. I have always enjoyed your images that you have posted here on RFF and look forward to viewing the book.

Congratulations on having the book published!

...... hope you enjoyed your recent trip to the west coast.

Thanks seakayaker1, fdarnell, jsrockit, mfogiel, photomoof & everyone. Enjoy the book. West coast was cool -- 74 or so rolls -- scan scan scan and more scanning.

Dan: Thank you for the heads up, I just ordered a copy of your book. I can't wait to hold it
on my hands. I lived in NYC in the late 60's and early 70's for about 7 years, and I still miss the city, although it has changed a lot (now it looks like it's a stage, like a Hollywood set). Your photographs bring back a lot of memories.
Thanks,
Giorgio

I've just unwrapped the book Dan.
In short : it is EXCELLENT ! My personal title would be : "NY craziness " haha...
I believe you have benefitted from the competent editing. This is a ready material for a nice exhibition - tour some "in groove" galleries with that.
Best
Marek

Dan -- I received my copy too and am really pleased with it. Excellent work, vision and talent. The presentation of the material is impressive too.

Dan you book looks amazing, congrats!

Besides wishing you all the best success I also wish inkphotobooks.com all the best and best success. By the looks it is really high quality printing and binding and the prize is still very inexpensive! This looks very promising to others who want to publish too!

Your book arrived and I have been enjoying it.
It was also nice to read the story on how many rolls of film it represented, that is amazing.
Thank you for the great work and I hope you sell them all.
