So, I realized suddenly the other day that I had lost the round glass screw on piece that covers my R2m viewfinder. No chance of finding it. I suppose I'll need to order another one. But, are they what cameraquest refers to as eyepiece diopters? and he lists several magnifications, which comes standard with an R2m?
and in the meantime, how will its absence affect my shooting?
any and all help appreciated.

I suggest you give Cameraquest a call. They can send you the correct replacement part.

i don't think they are diopters, just an rubberized eyepeice.

yeah, you dont want the diopter, just the eye peice thing, beware, they are expensive!

If there is one thing you have to take care of with a Bessa R2M it is this rubberized eyepiece. It is easily lost and a spare part is very expensive. Look at it as often as possible and be sure that it is fixed.

You do want a diopter, just one with zero correction. Yup, I've lost one as well and had to shell out £10+P&P to get another...
I check it often now, if I could be bothered I'd put a little glue in the thread.

I have a +2 diopter that doesn't have a mating camera right now. You're welcome to it if you, by some chance, need reading glasses.

You can also try the Photo Village. I believe they also stock it.

thanks for all the help guys...but does anyone know if this messes up how my eye sees the rf patch? will it affect my focusing ability?

The only thing the glass does is help keep dust out of the RF/VF. If I remember correctly it's the same as the FM1, 2 and 3 and FE Nikon glass. My ZI takes the same one and fell out the second day I had it. I discoverwed it was gone and retraced my path and found it in a parking lot where I thought it might have fallen off. I tightened it finger tight and have had no problems since.

As x-ray says, it just scratches up your glasses (if you wear them) and may get dirt inside your rf mech. Saying that when I lost it on my R2a the window behind the diopter looked competely sealed anyway - so I suppose it's just a scratch protector and diopter corrector is required.

Try this, use nail polish on the threads (just a little bit now) and while its still wet screw it on, been several months and mine is still there.

It may be simply worth asking around this forum and seeing if someone smiles on you. I recently got the R4a and took this piece off immediately as I use dioptre correction eyepieces. It may be that others are doing the same
The plain replacement ones are expensive for what they are. I've already put mine on ebay, but postage costs will probably not make it worth your while as I'm in the UK
Can anyone in the US help him out

Thanks for all the answers guys. That'd be really nice if someone had one at a discount, but I don't mind ordering one. Just have to get around to doing it....

I lost one once and found it, and then lost it again and bought a new one from Robert White.
Expensive.
Now I check it every few days.
