The Werra Cameras

You are one of many who has commented that right-handers have problems with the Werra. Well, I am EXTREMELY right-handed and I have no problem with the Werra, but that is probably just my being contrary. You might like an Ektra, the southpaw's delight. (My father was a leftie, as is my best friend. I know all the jokes!)

The Werra does have a very narrow focusing ring. I just learned to use the camera as it was meant to be used, and so I use it to this day. Nothing comes without experience, I am bull-headed enough to get into a camera system with both feet above my head, all the way, and so forth, and, once I have learned the system, I often sell it off. As it is, I have kept Leica RF, Contax RF, Werra RF, and Retina RF cameras, along with a couple of Super Ikonta B's (Prewar) and a slew of Rollei and Hasselblad gear.

filter size is 30.5 mm if i remember correctly.

"Officially" I think the filter size is 29.5mm, as genuine Werra filters screw into the internal thread of the lens, rather like those for the Zeiss Ikon Contina. However, you are correct for practical purposes as a 30.5mm filter slips nicely over the outside of the lens - and they are much cheaper than the genuine article. which command silly prices on ebay!

My interchangeable Tessar 50mm for the Werramat takes a 30.5 mm filter that screws into the internal thread of the lens. That's official!

Any experience with Werra 5 meter

Reviving an old thread here, but I just got my hands on a Werramatic, and for the life of me, I can't see the reflected metering needle in the bottom "T" area. In fact, the whole "T" area looks uniformly dark grey, and I'm taking pains not to block the top metering illuminator window.

Any ideas as to what's going on, and more importantly, how to fix it? The gentleman I purchased the camera from says the meter was operational when he last handled the camera.

Loving the Werra look and feel otherwise!

I had a Werra I with a Prestor shutter and a Tessar lens. It wasn't a bad camera really.
The shutter was problematic on mine but a stripdown and clean in isopropanol got rid of the old lubricant that had found its way onto the blades.

I have a Werra 1 in black. I wanted one after reading a review in Amateur Photographer. My wife bought me a boxed minter for £48. I really like the simplicity. I tend to take a light reading set the shutter & aperture & then use hyperfocal distance. I replace the hood & only remove the cap. This allows the hood to stay in place & stop the focus ring & aperture from being inadvertently moved. Great little camera.
