one of the things that i didn't care for with the x-pro1 was it's size...especially when compared to the size of the x-e1.

when i bought the xp1 i also bought the grip...eventually found one for the x-e1 as well. i like grips and if available i put them on all my cameras...but after using the x-p1 as my primary camera for a few weeks and removing the grip i find that i am really liking it's size quite a bit.
the x-pro1 is a very comfortable camera in use and the dual finder is great.

i still enjoy the x-e1 and look forward to attaching the fuji 27 pancake to it and using it as a semi-permanent combo.
 
I have considered the xe-1 and probably almost hit the buy button more times then I can remember. The xp1 was a no brainier...
- right size and weight
- dual viewing ovf/evf

The only thing I do not like about the Fuji grip is that u need to remove it to get to battery compartment. The real right stuff (rrs) has a cut out in the bottom so u don't need to remove the grip.

Right now the only thing keeping from hitting the buy button fora second body is that I know by early next year, if not this year, the next gen xp1s/xe1s or xp2/xe2 body is going to be released.

On the other hand I have been considering picking up a used xe1 body to get the maxmax ir conversion done on it. Which is pushing me toward the second body being xp1s/xp2 style instead so I can tell immediately which one is the ir body. If I do decide to pick up a xe1, then it will serve as a temp second body until next gen comes along..

the grip is much better on the x-e1...makes for a much better fit into my hand.
needing to remove it for battery/sd card is a pain, no doubt...but a small one and usually done at home and less so on the go.

I just found a deal on a used xe1 w/ the zoom..

I am normally not a zoom person, but for that price I will give the zoom a try. I finally broke down and picked up the 14 today as well.

i love the 14...but have been using the 18 more lately...practising for new york and deciding which one i will take.

the zoom is nice if you like them...in theory i should have kept mine but they generally just confuse my shooting.
 
To bad the 27 not around yet. 14/27 is a good combo. 14/50 is a bit too big of a jump if u are not used to the 21 fov. Most people have an easier time adjusting to a 24 or 28 fov then a 21 or wider.

28 is the widest I use for shots where there are a lot of people. 21 is for tight places, city scapes and landscapes.

A tele longer than 90 fov would e good for isolation even in landscape. The only lens on the roadmap is the 55-200 zoom. I wish they would put a 135f2.8 fov in the roadmap.

i'm hoping the 27 will appear in may so i can use it all summer!
i find the 21 fov needs a more thoughtful approach while the 28 can be quick and better for street shooting in general.
i like the 90 fov in theory but the 60mm lens tends to stay in the bag most of the time.
i think for nyc it will be the xp1 with 18/35...simple and light.
 
I too started out with the grip on the XP1, but didn't like either the bulk nor the inconvenience for changing batts/cards it added. Not to mention that after some heavy use, the grippy material on the grip started to fade color and looked really ugly.

Took that grip off and removed the one on the body and added a thumb's up on the back. It's not perfect, mainly because the Thumb's Up on the XP1 is shorter and not as comfy as the one for the M8/M9, but the camera as a whole is much better to use.

I just got a Kipon C/Y to XF adapter. For the time being, the Contax 135/2.8 Sonnar is making a great 180 efov on this camera. An ernostar (pre-Sonnar) design, it is fairly inexpensive. Wide aperture, very sharp on center, yet never clinical, and has great smooth bokeh. Still, focusing with such a long lens requires some deliberation.

Anybody want a beater XP1 grip?

For the price of a Thumbs Up you can take the money and spend it on a Really Right Stuff grip. Mine came in the mail in 24 hours (Fast) from California. I live in Allentown PA. I really love the solid feel and the ability to load from the bottom. It has stayed on my X Pro since I got it! Get one!

I realized I forgot to mention...

When I was using the 21/40/90 combo on the CL, I wa doing a lot of b&w and my own printing. During that time frame a lot of panatomic-x and plus-x. A 21 could easily be cropped to 28 and get a good 11x14, a 40 could be cropped to about 75 and the 90 and easy 135 or so...

The Fuji x sensor design (for that matter any 16+ mp sensor most likely), I can do the same thing. Given my normal print size these days is 8.5 to 11 and biggest is 13x19, I felt 21/40 combo would be the way to go again. Two xp bodies. The 40 is the primary body and the second body has the 21 w/ a 90 in case in need longer reach.

I wished I had bought rrs for the xp1 initially. I have the rrs grip on my x100 and my dp2m. I plan to buy them from now onwhe I want a solid grip.

for me...i prefer the 40 fov...and my favourite pic was shot with a 21...of course it was on a 1.5 crop sensor so it was close to 42mm fov...

when push comes to shove i realize that the 14 and the 60 will be sometime lenses for me and the 27 and 18 will be my main kit, maybe with the 35 in the bag too...

I use the ReallyRightStuff grip. I love using it when using the 18-55 lens and I don't feel like wearing a neck strap. Great grip... substantial feeling, nice fit for my hand. And it has the cut-out in the bottom that allows easy battery change. I take the grip off when I use a neck strap and small lens.
