The Zorki Takes Flight

It's the FED 2 that speaks to me. - Same here - I haven't picked up my Retina IIIc since get the FED 2.

What's really great about the FSU cams is that they still speak to so many of us!

Happy shooting!

Gene

Thank You GeneW

I'll second that, Michael. I've said before that I enjoy my Zorki 4 (1956) greatly. I've got another one from 1965 that I'm going to tear down, re-shutter and enjoy. This is the one with the odd engraved script on front...sometimes forgotten. I believe it may have only been made one year or two. The one from 1956 seems smoother and nicer. I'm going to see if I can re-create that feeling in the one from 1965.

The Zorki 3M would have been perfect with flash synch. Your 1956 Zorki 4 is IMHO the best Z4 ever made. Everything was engraved rather than painted and it was covered with vulcanite rather than nylon like the later models. I had a mint 1956 Z4 and in a moment of stupidy traded it to a friend a year ago. I'm still strying to get it back! :)

I really like my fed 2e. I also have a leica IIIa, Fed 1, Fed 3a, Leotax (leica IIIf copy), and a early Zorki 4(on its way from the FSU) in my Leica-inspired camera section. The fed 2 is the camera of this group that I use the most frequently.

My FSU cameras speak to me constantly. The trouble is, I don't understand Russian!

I heard from Oleg today. He confirmed what I thought -- that the Z-3m is, overall, in very good condition. The problem with uneven exposures was due to its once having had the shutter curtains replaced with ones that were too thick. He has replaced them with new ones.

Can't wait to get it back! It should be on its way home tomorrow :)

good to hear gene. you must be very pleased.
i sometimes think it would be very hard for me to send one of the p's off for a visit to the spa.

William, oh man ... you shouldn't do that to me ...

Anyone have a good-condition Kiev for sale??

Gene

Oleg has kiev 3a body for sale. He also has kiev 4am and 4m to sell too. I bought 2 kiev 3 and 1 kiev 3a from him. They are working out of the box. The rangefinder is dead on at infinity. This can not be said for any other FSU dealers I experienced with.

try kiev 2, 2a, 3, 3a, and early model kiev 4a. It looks like kiev 3a is the best buy right now. Models 56-58 are good.

Thanks! Now that the Zorki is on its way home and I've supplemented its absence with an Oly 35RC AND a Bessa R, the GAS has subsided a bit. I really don't need another RF right now. I'll wait at least a week longer :D

FWIW- my Zorki 3M was Olegized two years ago (ok, maybe three?)
best money I ever spent. Works smooth as a dream with a bright
veiwfinder!

Comparison? I'd call the FSU answer to the Leica IIIG, at a fraction
(a small fraction at that) of the price.

Thanks Rick. That's *very* reassuring to hear! I really like using the 3M and am looking forward to its homecoming.

I've owned a Zorki 4K, Fed-2 and Zorki 3M. I liked them all. I missed having strap lugs with the 4K though. ....
Gene

Hello Gene and others,

When talking about Zorki 4K, I am always wondering why no one mentioned a Z-4K with engrved speed numbers? Most Z-4K has the easily erased printed numbers but I was fortunte enough to have found 3 that has the engraved numbers. They look like factory made but perhaps in small numbers. When strap lugs are added, the Zorki -4k becomes one of my favorite Soviet rangefinder cameras.

Regards

Zhang

Zhang, that's really a cool looking 4K. I've never seen one with strap lugs before. Nice!!

Hi Gene,

I swapped a $10 Zorki 4's strap lugged body case with this engraved Z-4k to combine the merits of both cameras.:)

Creative FSUship! Very clever, and well done!

The Zorki Returns !!!!!

The Zorki Returns !!!!!

This morning the postman rang twice ..

Once to deliver my old friend Zork, returned from Oleg's Health Spa, sounding really good and ready for some shooting.

Then again, to deliver the latest version of Photoshop.

Wonderful juxtaposition of Old and New, and I'm taking it as an omen. I start a night class tonight for what could be a career change. The signs are favourable :D

2. Zorki 3M with Jupiter 8 and CV 50mm 1:1 VF
3. Zorki and Adobe buddying up ...

Sweetness, redux. I've yet to use my 50mm bright-line finder on the Zorki. Maybe I should give it a try.

its funny that the viewfinder costs more than the camera. I always wanted one of those but sadly could never afford them. I think Im going to spend my money on a Bessa L instead, heh.
