The Zorki Takes Flight

Yep, a bright line finder may run you the price of three or four FED 2's, but you will get some use out it on other cameras. My favorite use is with an old Agfa Record III shown here bringing up the rear. It's a great combination, as the 50mm frame lines are a bit tighter than the 105mm viewing field of a 6x9 medium format folder.

Once to deliver my old friend Zork, returned from Oleg's Health Spa, sounding really good and ready for some shooting.

Then again, to deliver the latest version of Photoshop.

Wonderful juxtaposition of Old and New, and I'm taking it as an omen. I start a night class tonight for what could be a career change. The signs are favourable 😀

The advantage?

That finder is great since it shows things at a 1:1 ratio so you can keep both eyes open while you frame, and its supposed to be very bright and big. It also looks very cool 😛.

Yup, that's the advantage all right. Plus the Zorki doesn't have a particularly well defined edge to its VF and I find myself cutting things off sometimes thinking they're in the frame. I can frame better with the external and the 1:1 ratio is truly a treat. I use the external VF on more than one cam.

It's really nice to have the Zorki back!

Thanks Joe -- I'm really happy to have it back. I think the Zorki will become my main 50mm shooter and the Bessa will be my main 35mm shooter. I really hate changing lenses on LTM mounts. It takes me forever 😀

Hello Gene and others,

When talking about Zorki 4K, I am always wondering why no one mentioned a Z-4K with engrved speed numbers? Most Z-4K has the easily erased printed numbers but I was fortunte enough to have found 3 that has the engraved numbers. They look like factory made but perhaps in small numbers. When strap lugs are added, the Zorki -4k becomes one of my favorite Soviet rangefinder cameras.

while we're on the topic of Zorkis, has anyone come up with a solution on faded numbers?

Haven't tried it but maybe a jeweler could engrave the nos? Of course you'd need to know exactly where to put 'em. If the paint is only faded but still there then you'd be set. If the numbers are gone that would be more complicated.
So far, I've been lucky cuz my Zorkis are all engraved.

Not sure how I missed this post until today. Happy for you to have that beauty back! How's it shooting?
I'm real happy with mine but have been toying with the idea of sending it to Oleg for preventitve maintainance. I have no worries about his work but can't quite bring myself to be without the camera for several weeks...I do have other choices to take pictures with while my Z3 is traveling...
Hvae to go off and think about this.

Argh, I missed it too !!!

Congrats Gene !!! I know how much you missed the 3M, in fact it made you buy two more RFs while waiting for it 😀 After some time I took it out for a while yesterday and I fell in love with it again.

It's true that external VFs can run twice or three times the cost of the camera but then you can use them for 2 or 3 different ones, just as Solinar shown us 🙂 Now, where's that used bargain 28/35 minifinder :bang:
