Except for the car picture the now pictures are an improvement. I personally prefer the darker car of the then picture, the supposed body under the car looks better too. I guess it's the stronger contrast that works better for the then picture in this case.

Sorry, but for me I tend to prefer the originals, but in any case the man + car shot is the best of the bunch, an absolute keeper -brought a smile to my face 🙂

It's an interesting execise to go back and select files you thought you'd done a reasonable job of then re-process them.

With that first pic in particular I think somewhere between the two examples would look better ... the shadow detail is really lacking in the latest incarnation.

Good job Mr Back Alley. There have been many occasions where I could not find an original edit of a pic and and have gone through the editing process again only to find the original edit later. Often makes me think WTF was i thinking!

On a side note - when I think Sony, I think of you. Today I went to a Sony Try Out session and got to play with a NEX, a RX 1 and an Alpha99. I got to experience autofocus for the first time. WOW!
