They are coming after us

Actually, I laughed my head off when I saw it. I don't know how many times I've seen my own and other kids in the same pose. I just think of it as the 'indolent summer dreaming' phase. Seems that what I've been reading here shows that beauty, art, etc. really is in the eye of the beholder.

i don't like Balthus's work.

I don't think it should be censored; nor do many people.

And yes, the current debate about sexual harassment and abuse is entirely justified. I interviewed a friend and good photographer about an upcoming book on Wednesday, and re-reading her autobiography there's a horrible story about a musician sexually assaulting her. He got clean away with it. Anyone who denies women the right to complain about abuse, as has happened on this thread, is in a state of pathetic denial, or else somehow likes the idea of abusing women.

Who can resist a good conspiracy theory when the ambiguous "they" are coming after the equally ambiguous "us"?

This sort of thing is covered in every student's first lesson on the types of propaganda.

The trouble with conspiracies is that they rot internally.
― Robert A. Heinlein, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress

There is art that depicts torture, murder and war, in current works and historical works. Not to mention what you can pull up on TV at any given time.

Should all that be banned as well?

This is what happens when well-intentioned people climb on that high, holy horse of righteousness to project their own insecurities and fear.

The 10-year battle these parents went through is mind boggling.

And all this over a couple of innocent childhood snapshots.

I hope the museum holds their ground and will not remove the painting.

as a father, my sympathies go to the couple. these are pictures of candid family moments that aren't meant for the public's consumption.:eek::eek:

the weird world we live in today. all this militant liberalism is beginning to become ridiculous and we will all be burnt out in the end

The problem is Willie, that especially in this day of the internet and social media there does not have to be a conspiracy in the traditional sense for there still to be a conspiracy theory that is valid. We see every day on social media, people all out trying to out virtue signal each other. No one necessarily conspired with someone else to do this and there is not necessarily a vast conspiracy in the sense that it is controlled from the centre. But nevertheless there is a vast number of people, all part of a "hive mind", all thinking alike and acting alike - to others detriment. Each one is a "lone wolves" acting towards a common aim exactly as with Islamist extremists - but it is never the less a kind of conspiracy given others are egging them on and creating the conditions for it to happen.

I am not too sure Heinlein's quote was a good one for you to use. He also said "Never underestimate the power of human stupidity

Never underestimate the power of human stupidity". Given the circumstances I think that is much more appropriate.
