I have registered almost a year ago, but unfortunately I have not had made any postings. However, I always read the interesting threads, which are always FRIENDLY and informative, whenever I have the chance. There are reasons why they are talking about you guys--and, it is the SHARED spirit of camarederie and the desire to answer the questions of other members seeking help--as politely and helpful as possible. This makes RFF special!
 
RFF is certainly a special place. Irritability and personal attacks are virtually unheard of.

And I can't recall any really dumb questions here, which might trigger an irritable response. Uninformed questions/views, sure, since a good reason to hang around here is to become better informed. 🙂
 
I've seen a couple other members sleazing around other boards (OSCAR!) too.

I'll say this, we seem to be a gentle bunch. This is like a breath of fresh air.

If someone named "Jay" tries to join, though, the Powers That Be might want to short-leash THAT one.
 
I perfer this place over the Leica thread at photo.net any day of the week. Much more friendly around here.
I still remember my first Leica thread posting... painful, painful.

In the beststuff russian forum maybe ? 😀 Yes that's also a great place for specific FSU equipment info and people there seem a friendly bunch too.

Then I'm also on the CVUG, PAW, Manual Minolta and Lubitel 166 mailing lists 🙄

I know pretty well that kind of flame wars that burn up in some Leica forum out there, I see exactly the same happening in our college faculty forum, only that there wars are regarding the 'Spanish vs Catalan' language, the last one had more than 300 posts...

Unbelievable that students spend their time doing that 😕
 
I mostly read the other Leica forum. Here, I know for sure that nobody will ridicule or mock my comments. Sure, a bit of friendly ribbing every other time, but it's always in such good spirit that I get a good, hearty chuckle.

However, we really have to stay alert and keep our cool. There was another photo forum in which people really didn't think much before posting and, for a few weeks, flame wars, personal attacks, trolls and tattle tales of all kinds were the order of the day. Weird! It's incredible how far people will go to hurt others when there's absolutely NO real contact involved.

This place is so nice it cannot be beat! 🙂
 
This place really is refreshing and supportive. I can't remember any flame wars breaking out here. And there seems to be a widespread understanding and respect for cameras and photography in general, without nonsensical rants about this or that brand of equipment.
 
I just want to say that you guys are a great bunch and the homely feeling of this place is unique in the internet community. Thanks to you guys when I had that despicable episode of personal attack awhile ago.

oooh... don't know why it gives me a sudden urge to come up with the dumbest question... how many pictures can a woodchuck take if a woodchuck.... heh...

but yeah this is really a nice place, none of your typical big ego forum trolls commonly found on other forums. :O)

but the best part about this place is that it makes a RF addict like me feel at home! I just got my bessa R and have ordered a canonet, and before it was even sent I've ordered a jupiter 8!!! help!!! :O)
 
Yes, us students are great for flame wars. Especially on the uni systems board. I guess we have too much spare time and too much bandwidth to play with.

The Unix/Linux forum is upto FW216, not kidding and the fact that someone keeps count... well... is quite sad.

You'd think various FWs would be something useful and intelligent like-
Robert Capa, hero or fake.
Is Boyd Webb's work really rubbish.
Ansel Adam isn't boring.
Is Zeiss really nice.
Etc etc.

But NOOO... it's the 'blad users in blue corner and RZ shooters in the red... "ding-ding" "biff-biff". And the only time they come together in happy unison is when some poor sod brings up Bronica and the feeding freenzy starts.

Hello there, I see that you have got your Bessa R. May I know where did you buy it? 😀 You are having a serious condition of RF mania. The only way that you could cure yourself is to buy more films and go out on the street to shoot more and when you have sinful thoughts of buying more cameras and lenses, self-flagellation is a soul cleansing practice! 😛
 
hey peter, I got it from Dr Yao and yeah have yet to put it thru its paces yet! btw fyi Ubin is having wayang performances on the 30 and 31 august, which is a mon and tues so it's not very convenient. in case you're interested in capturing that part of ubin's life!
 
Yes I have heard about it, but too inconvenient for me. I will be going to Ubi on Monday and Tuesday night as they have 'Wayangs' and the usual religious activities for the 7th Month. Do you want to come along?

That was exactly the problem there Doug, after the first posts then the insults began, being 'fascist' the softer one, and then the thing kept going and going worse...

When the truth is both languages are official here and have the same category, that's what makes those flame wars still more nonsense... 🙄
