Honestly, I have never tried the Zeiss. But I won't replace my 35 cron asph anytime soon. It is that good.

Impressive photograph and demonstration of the point that all good photos are about what the lens is pointing at: the subject, composition and the light. Differences in lens renderings – bokeh and sharpness – are secondary considerations by far.
The ZM lens looks like it might be the "best" 35mm M lens you can buy but I doubt it is worth selling a Summicron for.
I think the Cron Asph renders plenty smoothly. It's about using the light.
Harsh light will result in harsh contrast and give the impression of harsh rendering. Light your subject the way you want it to appear.
Shot with Summicron Asph 35:
I can't comment on the Zeiss but the cron ASPH has been my choice when I decide to get a modern design 35mm lens (it was an addition to my vintage Summaron 2.8, still own both)

Nothing clinical about those. Beautiful in every way.

Same feeling, does not like the rendering of the Summicron ASPH. Zeiss 1.4 is a good choice. The cron has wonderful sharpness, however, the rendering of the lens sometime could be a little dry for my taste, the zeiss has the sharpness as well as rich tonality (from what I’ve seen online).
I already had the 35/2.8 C-Biogon so now it's a two-lens 35 kit. The Biogon when I want to go really lightweight. That lens is so ridiculously good considering the price why not get both? Both these lenses optically kick the ASPH Cron's ass, speaking from experience.
Dump that ASPH and don't look back.
A lot of comparison around between the Summicron 35mm and the Zeiss 35mm 1.4
For a while I wanted to upgrade my 35mm lens (currently using a Voigtlander 35mm 1.4) for my M6 and Monochrom I found a nicely priced Zeiss 35mm 1.4 and I was ready to be settled. Just yesterday I found a Summicron 35mm ASPH for almost the same price so I'm a bit in doubt now. ..
Any thought on those 2 lenses in 2020? Is it still a matter of size/weight for the Zeiss?
