Thinking about never using evilBay anymore....

Up to now I had only good experiences selling on evilBay (OK, buying is another story....), apart from a guy in India who bought my camcorder and, as he didn't understand the german listing, thought he might get lots of stuff with it I had not listed!

But now, I sold my Epson V600 scanner and was in for a nasty surprise. The buyer from italy insisted that I had listed the shipping fees for free..... he even sent me a very blurry screenshot where I can just make out the word GRATIS. Now I checked and rechecked my listing, opened it in the german and the italian evilBay site and I still see the 18 € I was asking f'or shipping.

You can check it with the item number 200906786130 and tell me what shipping fees you see....

I try to argue, to explain, even offer to cancel the auction but he gets really unpleasant. He will definitely give me my first negative rating (told me so), a thing I really hate, and he even threatens that if ever he sees the slightest fault on the (used but really clean) scanner he'll want his money back.

I just told him to send the whole amount or he won't get the scanner and I contacted the customer service of evilBay - they sent me an answer, but really missed the whole point.

I got the money and sent the scanner - but I'm worried this will not stop there.

evilBay might have had some glitch, but they don't seem to try to see into the problem. Unless it's the buyer who somehow manipulated the screenshot.

Anyways, I am disgusted with evilBay and thinking of getting out of there, though it comes in handy for getting rid of used stuff.

How are your experiences as sellers?

evilBay UK showing 18€ for delivery. Not sold anything there so no experience of it, sorry. I don't think I want to start either.

Ronnie

Just checked via the UK portal, the shipping is definitely listed on the auction!

Best of luck with this matter....

Haven't sold anything there, though. You can stand on your own as listing with fees is still there (EUR 18,00 Italien Standard Int'l Versand).

Submit case to eBay and unless there's error (we know, computer systems aren't error free) he could end up with deleted account (so I think, but may not be true).

And neg. feedback isn't end of times - every sane buyer realizes world isn't perfect and there are jerky buyers who leave negative not receiving camera along with screen protector which they purchased for $5. At least, I'm not worried if seller has couple of negatives, even if ratio looks terrible (with few total deal it doesn't take long). I research feedback history of both parties to get clue what's going on there.

P.S. threaten him sending blurry picture of hand written paper stating buyer has confirmed he has picked up scanner in person :D

Great Idea btgc, and thatnk for the confirmation from italian site!

I had even thought about refunding him the shipping, but I'm too p...ed off to do it.

I'll stay my ground and I'll not even give him a negative rating. I'll take this further to ebay though.

Thanks all for your help!

A negative rating is not the worse thing that can happen. Ebay almost always side with the buyer, no matter how outrageous. So the buyer ships it back, or says he will, and then eBay will freeze your paypal account until you refund the purchase price and shipping.

I sold a camera for parts, non-working for a few bucks and got screwed this way (buyer said I didn't describe it correctly).

With ebay (I've been selling since 1998) the seller is on their own, and usually get's very little help even when things go wrong. However, since you have your emails where he threatened you with bad feedback, and tried to defraud you, you might win. Just wait and see what happens with the feedback, but keep all your correspondence. The horrible thing is Ebay gives them I think 45 days to screw you - last minute. so you'll have to mark your calender.

Thinking about reporting him right now, or shall I wait till he gives a negative feedback.

I care less about the feedback than about the fact that I'm accused of being dishonest! Can't stand that at all......

Over a week now since the guy received the scanner and I got no negative feedback yet.

I don't know what happened or what eBay did, but I reported him. As they do not give any feedback on their actions (according to the rules), I can't tell you if they contacted him, prevented him from giving a negative feedback....

Anyways, till now all is OK as it really should be. Hope I get no bad surprise some day.

Thanks all for your input!

OK, got my negative rating (damn). Over a minth late, but he didn't forget me.

Nicely done too, all in CAPITAL LETTERS, in italian and totally off topic.

I just left a comment to explain the situation and well, let it be, as they sang long ago.

The only thing worrying me is eBay never reacting to my mails.... think they got other things to do such as spending our money ;-)

Can you PM a copy of his response, I would like to read it. As a long time ebayer, since 2006, I would not worry about this too much. As long as you have replied to his negative review there is no more you can do. And for what its worth, I order from ebay sellers with less than perfect ratings all te time and have yet to be burnt.
Your buyer sounds like a trouble maker looking for a partial refund - don't do it !!

(ps, anyone can photoshop an original ad and change it to 'gratis.' oldest trick in the book.

I always read reviews carefully. The people who are problems are obvious, and ignore them. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
