Thinking of saving for an M6/M7

As long as she isn't a wife (well maybe she is somebody's), you should get all the stuff you want. When you have a wife, it becomes more difficult.

Sounds like a plan: three out, one in. She'll likely understand, unless, of course, she's grown fond of one of those other three...

Up until my recent change of heart, I'd been planning on picking up a sidegrip for the R2A, and a Nokton 50/1.5. Now that I think about it, if I'd held off purchasing the damn DLUX3, I could have an M6 on its way. 😛

Such is life. But you shouldn't have much trouble selling the D-Lux.

One more question - as I'm more familiar with aperture priority shooting - with the M6, what's the equivalent for taking shots? Set the aperture, adjust the shutter manually till it's lined up, then manual focus?

Personal choice, really, although many people I've known with Leicas other than the M7 tend to set shutter speed first, then do the focus/aperture thing. In non-tricky lighting situations (and with reasonably wide-latitude film loaded), there isn't a big need to micro-manage exposure, so you shouldn't have to constantly fiddle with the aperture ring unless you have the luxury of time to do so without missing the "moment". Using an M7, of course, makes this less of an issue.

Remember to divest yourself of cameras and not of girlfriend!

Of course, if you get an M7 - you have aperture priority 🙂

If you have aperture and speed preset for the general lighting conditions then you can make minor adjustments more easily with the aperture ring (while looking through the finder) than with the shutter speed dial.

I love my M6 just got it. The M7 is tempting, but I have a G2 which will have to do.

It doesn't, you choose the shutter speed and then adjust the aperture until you get satisfactory exposure. If you want to shoot aperture priority, you do it the other way round! 🙂
