bummer! just had a local buyer back out of buying the nikon kit!!
would i be completely bonkers if i sold the nikon kit and bought a black x100?
(and a new tv to boot!)
While I was waiting for my E-M5 I was very very close to buying an x100. (even called to inquire on one from Precision Camera) In the end I am happy I didn't, because the E-M5 is all I need and is excellent too. But the x100 remains a very tempting camera.

Completely? No, not completely.
After using both, I'm definitely a bigger fan of the Xpro. The slightly larger body just feels better to me. The buttons are a little easier to use. And the ability to change lenses is way too nice to give up.

Same here, but opposite outcome. I did buy the x100 while waiting on the EM5. I fell so in love the x100 it made me rethink the EM5 purchase and subsequently cancel the order. Now I'm thinking more about the XPro1. I'll be saving my freelance pennies while I decide.
The x-100 is really a special little camera
The EM5 looks great too though. These mirrorless/EVIL cameras are really coming into their own now.

The 60mm is a bit large it's true. It's not a heavy lens and is very well balanced on the camera. For me it is much easier than trying to focus and frame with a 85/90mm on a Leica M. I never really did get used to the weight and tiny frame lines when using my old Nikkor f2/85 or the Hex 90. On the Xpro the 60 just shoots like the 35 only with slower focus. Hopefully a future FW update will improve that focus. The Xp1 with 60mm and an X100 will be a super combo for events.

I continue to be surprised that more people aren't marveling at this. It really does feel like a digital reincarnation of the G system. Maybe it's bcause not many people ever owned a G2?
I still have my g2 system. Does not get used as much anymore. I do not think a lot of people ever bought the g1 or g2.

Frame lines for the 90 and the 135 always was one of the reasons I did not use those lenses very much...
The 60 with the lens shade is much larger than I ever expected. But I agree that looks are deceiving when it comes to weight and balance on the camera.

I owned a G1 for a week.
I bought it after I bought my XP1, my conclusion is that, yes, they are very similar.
Cept the G1 had a pretty neat red light flashed every time you focused somewhere where it wasn't bright enough.
If I wasn't wanting the 50 equiv. and ability to change lenses, i'd of gotten the X100, it's super compact, great IQ.
That being said—i'd still need a SLR to back it up, but with the XP1 I can say I don't.

DRabbit,
I hear ya. i had a EM5 on order and couldn't wait for it. the body came in and at the same time i played with the x pro....again. went with the x pro even after investing in some top m43 lenses. was going to pick up a EM5 with 12-50 kit but just called it off. Putting all my funds into the x pro system. More I use it...more I love it.
Now the EM5 and OLY system is more mature....but I love my x pro. Already have a case coming, Gordy's straps (shoulder and wrist), already have my Match Technical Thumbs Up and Shutter Button (Opera Act II), and just got in my 2 adapters for M and F mount.
Having some fun.

Opposite for me. I have the X-Pro1, but will probably be using my G2 more because of the similarity in operation (G2 for day, X-Pro1 for night).

So, I've now used both the OM and the XP1. I've decided to return the OM and keep the XP1. It wasn't a decision I made on image quality so much (although I do prefer the IQ of the Fuji), but one made on usability. I really like the way the XP1 handles. It suits me really well. I've had no issue with the AF and really like the build of the camera. It feels well made and everything is where it should be.
I don't shoot sports and I'm not one that sprays and prays. In fact, when I go out to shoot for a couple of hours, I usually come home with somewhere around 40 to 50 images. I say this just to give you an idea of rhythm. And to me, that's what this camera is all about.
I really, really like the XP1. After about 45 days with it, I've been won over. I've bought in officially and I'm done looking at other options.

Landshark99,
Sadly that is true for me as well... But on the other hand third party vendor have already announced contax g to x mount adapters... Kipon and rainbow are the two I am aware of.
The 35, 45 and 90 should not be a problem to mount. The 28 maybe iffy and the 21 is a no go due to those rear element wing guards on those lenses.

one thing about being low income...it allows for much time to think and then over think decisions about buying while waiting to save or sell in order to buy.
when i think about it...the nikon is not nearly as enjoyable to shoot as my ex x100...it is way more versatile etc...but not as much fun!
the xp1 has 3 lenses currently available...none of which is appealing at the moment...the 35 is a 50 and 50 is not my fave...i don't care for a 28 on the 1.5 crop so the 18 is low on the list and a 90 i could live with but it would be left at home lots...
so what would i buy a xp1 for? future lenses? why not wait for a newer much improved xp2?
the x100 has my favourite lens...a 35 on it, it's small and light and sharp and lovely...
this torture (first world problem) would be more excusable if i were a better photographer!
